What is thrush in children?

Oral thrush is a very common condition in children. When it occurs, many mothers don’t know what to do. In fact, it is best to prevent thrush in children, so that not only the baby will not suffer, but also the child will not feel relieved. However, if a child develops thrush, it is still necessary to actively treat it so that the child can recover as quickly as possible. So, let’s understand what oral thrush is in children.

Oral ulcers refer to yellow-white, bean-sized ulcerative diseases that occur in the lips, cheeks, palate and other parts of the mouth. They are also called recurrent oral ulcers, periglandular oral ulcers, and stubborn oral ulcers.

Symptoms: White dot-like pseudomembranes can be seen on the oral mucosa of newborns within 2-3 days after birth, which resemble milk clots and are distributed on the gums, buccal mucosa and inner surface of the lips. Scraping with a tongue depressor reveals congestion of the basal mucosa. It may also fuse into flakes, which may affect breastfeeding. The temperature is normal and there are no other symptoms. It can only be found during a routine oral examination.

Prevention: To keep the newborn's oral cavity clean and hygienic, the feeding utensils should be sterilized, and the mother should pay attention to cleanliness and hygiene, wash her hands before feeding and before caring for the child. The oral mucosa must not be picked or punctured to avoid bacterial infection.

Prevention: 1. Pay attention to oral hygiene, ensure adequate nutrition, and pay attention to supplementing foods containing vitamin B and vitamin C, such as eating more fresh vegetables and fruits. 2. Do not let your child become overly tired, and actively prevent and treat common and infectious diseases. 3. Pay attention to correcting the bad habit of sleeping with your mouth open, because mouth breathing can easily dry out the oral mucosa and cause damage. 4. Do not eat food that is too hot, too salty, or too hard to avoid damaging the oral mucosa. 5. Feed water frequently, liquid food, and drinks should be warm or cool. Drinking plenty of water can keep your mouth moist and prevent bacterial infection in the mouth. Be careful to use gentle hands and small amounts when applying topical medications, otherwise the delicate oral mucosa of children can be easily scratched.

The above is an introduction to what causes thrush in children. It should be noted here that it is very normal for children to develop thrush due to their poor physical resistance, and with reasonable conditioning and treatment, thrush in children is very easy to recover. Therefore, mothers do not need to have a heavy psychological burden when they find that their children have thrush, just respond positively.
