Can children drink Isatis root frequently?

Although Isatis root is a traditional Chinese medicine, it is poisonous to some extent. It is best not to drink too much of this medicine or drink it frequently. Especially for children, it is even more forbidden to take it for a long time, otherwise it will cause some disorders in their bodies. In severe cases, it may also cause some side effects. These situations are relatively complicated, so special attention must be paid.

Pharmacological effects① Antibacterial and antiviral effects

Isatis root is effective against a variety of bacteria. The water extract has inhibitory effect on Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Octacocin, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, Bacillus paratyphi, Shigella dysenteriae (Shigella, Freundli), Enterococcus, etc.; the acetone extract has similar effect, and is effective against hemolytic streptococci (all using the agar microplate method).

Its antibacterial effect on type A meningococci is similar to that of garlic and honeysuckle. Some people believe that the active antibacterial and antiviral ingredients of Isatis Root and Isatis Indigotica are indigo glycosides. Experiments have shown that indigoside has no antibacterial effect both in vivo and in vitro; its antiviral effect in vitro is not prominent; and it is excreted quickly in the body, so it is believed that it has no obvious physiological and antibacterial activity. Its active ingredients are yet to be studied.

② Anti-Leptospira effect

Isatis root or isatis indigotica leaf at a ratio of 1:100 or above can kill Leptospira in test tubes.

③Detoxification effect

It is reported that taking Isatis root, Coptis chinensis powder and Veratrum together (2.0 g/kg each) can detoxify Veratrum and reduce mortality; if it is used after Veratrum poisoning, it will be ineffective; using Isatis root powder or Coptis chinensis powder alone will also have poor effects.

Pick out impurities, wash, soak, slice and dry.

It is bitter and cold in nature.
