Anal itching in children

Anal itching in children

Anal itching in children is a relatively common symptom, which is usually caused by skin diseases such as allergies or eczema. This disease has a great impact on children's skin health and physical and mental health. If not treated in time, the condition may worsen and cause more serious skin damage to children. Next, I will introduce to you the symptoms, treatment methods and prevention methods of anal itching in children!

1. Symptoms

1. Itching around the anus or perineum: It is caused by toxic substances produced by pinworms and mechanical stimulation. It is especially severe at night, affecting sleep and causing children to cry and be restless. Due to the extreme itching, scratching causes the skin around the anus to fall off, become congested, and cause rashes and eczema. It may even induce purulent infection.

2. Psychiatric symptoms: Due to the metabolic products discharged by the parasites in the body, mental excitement, insomnia, and night terrors and finger biting in children can occur. The most common symptoms of pica in children are those in patients with pinworm infection, such as eating lumps of earth, coal slag, and salt.

3. Gastrointestinal symptoms: Pinworms burrow into the intestinal mucosa, and mechanical or chemical stimulation in the gastrointestinal tract can cause symptoms such as loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

4. Other symptoms: caused by ectopic parasitism of pinworms, such as vaginitis, salpingitis, endometritis, etc. It can also invade the appendix and cause appendicitis or even peritonitis, which are all symptoms of anal itching in children.

2. Treatment Methods

Some children feel severe anal itching. What is the reason? Most of the time it is caused by pinworms: pinworms often crawl around the anus to lay eggs, irritate the skin and cause severe itching.

When your child tells you that his or her anus is itchy, you can let his or her butt face the window during the day and pry open the anal sphincter. Sometimes you can see small white worms like short thread ends. It is best to use a flashlight to observe at night when the child is asleep. This will make it easier to see pinworms crawling around the anus. Pinworms not only absorb nutrients or blood in the intestines and make children lose their appetite, but also disturb children's sleep, causing night terrors and crying. They also make children emotionally upset and unable to concentrate, and they will gradually lose weight over time. Therefore, attention should be paid to the prevention and treatment of pinworm disease.

To prevent pinworm disease, you can decoct and take the following medicines: ① 10-15 grams of Stemona japonica; ② 10-15 grams of Areca nut; ③ Chewing the flesh of Schisandra chinensis, calculated at 1 or 1.5 grains per year, and all should be used continuously for several days. If you can use pinworm ointment containing Stemona japonica and gentian violet at the same time, the effect will be better. The method is to insert a bakelite tube into the anus every night and squeeze the ointment in for 7 consecutive days. If you can't buy pinworm ointment, you can also plug the anus with a sterilized cotton ball every night for 20 days, and apply mustard oil to the anus for 10 days, which is also effective.

3. Prevention of anal itching in children

① Timely treatment of systemic and local diseases that can cause anal pruritus, such as internal hemorrhoids, anal fissures, anal fistulas, diarrhea, parasitic diseases, etc.

②Avoid eating or coming into contact with foods or items that you are allergic to, such as seafood, paint, etc.

③Underwear should not be too tight or too hard to avoid rubbing the anal skin; do not use contaminated paper, soil, wooden sticks, etc. to wipe the anus.

④ Keep the anus clean and dry, wash it frequently with warm water, and avoid washing it with hot water or soap repeatedly.

⑤ Avoid anxiety, tension, and do not scratch the anal skin.
