Causes of astigmatism in children

Causes of astigmatism in children

Children's body parts are all in the development period. Generally speaking, all their parts are very healthy. After all, they have not overworked any part of the body, nor have they exerted great effort to work. Compared with internal organs of the body, eyes are exposed to the outside world and are more vulnerable to injury. Normally, children's eyes will not have too many problems, but some children may have astigmatism. What causes astigmatism in children?

Astigmatism, also known as stray vision, is a common eye disease and a manifestation of abnormal refraction of the eye. The abnormal curvature of the cornea is an important factor causing astigmatism. Since the thickness and curvature of different parts of the cornea are different, the curvature of each point on the meridian is also different. As a result, the light does not converge into one point after passing through the cornea, but disperses in all directions. Therefore, objects cannot be clearly imaged on the retina. This condition is called astigmatism.

Some patients suffer from hyperopic astigmatism, which can be said to be a natural aging phenomenon of the eyes. As patients age, their ability to accommodate changes declines, and they often experience symptoms such as visual fatigue or blurred vision. Doing this for a long time will lead to farsightedness and astigmatism symptoms. Some eye diseases may also trigger this disease.

Some children have astigmatism due to congenital genetic reasons. These children will have astigmatism at a very early age, such as when they are 3 to 5 years old. If a child's eyes have been injured, he or she is particularly prone to astigmatism. These are the causes of refractive error and astigmatism.

Whether the child's nutrition is comprehensive will also affect the child's eye health. If the child is lacking in vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin D, etc., it may cause astigmatism. At this time, more vitamins should be supplemented, either through diet or medication.

There are many other reasons that can cause astigmatism in children, such as incorrect writing posture, not getting enough eye rest, watching TV, playing computer games, playing with mobile phones for a long time, etc., and reading while lying down or prone can easily cause astigmatism.

Precautions for children's eye astigmatism

Hyperopia and astigmatism are common diseases and seem to be relatively simple, but their treatment requires certain methods and time. Improper treatment can easily cause strabismus and amblyopia problems in children. Before wearing glasses, it is best to go to a regular hospital to ask a doctor for advice and have a comprehensive eye examination.

There are many reasons why children develop astigmatism, and many times it is difficult to prevent. Once you find that your child has astigmatism, check and treat it in time. If the astigmatism is only within 50 degrees, no treatment is needed. If it is serious, the child must wear glasses for correction.
