Genetic law of overbite

Genetic law of overbite

As we all know, children are born from the combination of genes from both their parents. This is why many children are born with other similarities to their parents. If the gene is highly heritable, the child's face can be related to his or her parents. However, in genetics, not only the advantages of the parents are inherited, some defects of body parts will also be inherited. If one of the parents has the characteristics of overbite, the child is relatively likely to suffer from overbite. So what is the inheritance law of overbite?

1. Will overbite be inherited by the next generation?

The formation of an overbite is related to heredity. If one of the parents has an underbite, the baby may inherit it, and the possibility is 1/3. In addition, improper feeding methods and family factors for underbite of deciduous teeth in infants and young children are incorrect feeding postures of parents. When feeding, if the parents hold the bottle too high, the child must extend the lower jaw to drink milk. Over time, the lower jaw will protrude more than the upper jaw, forming an underbite.

So far, there has been no clear genetic evidence to prove that overbite can be passed on to the next generation. But based on the known cases now, underbite does tend to appear in families. If a child's parents have congenital overbite, there is a possibility that the condition will be passed on to the child.

It is worth noting that if a child develops bad habits, he or she may also suffer from overbite. For example, sucking fingers, biting lips, etc. Doctors remind that although overbite may be hereditary, it is more often caused by some bad acquired habits.

If a child has an overbite, it is best to undergo early overbite correction treatment before the age of 5. Because the roots of the child's deciduous teeth have begun to be absorbed at this time, it is more appropriate to perform correction before the age of 5. If this period has been missed, treatment can only be carried out after the permanent teeth have fully grown.

Although overbite may be hereditary, with the development of medicine today, parents don't need to worry too much. As long as you take your child to the hospital for orthodontic treatment at the appropriate time, the tooth deformity can be corrected. Overbite will mainly affect the oral chewing function and oral health. If it is serious, it will also affect the development of the facial valley. Therefore, we recommend that you go to the hospital for treatment as soon as possible if you have an overbite!

2. Children's underbite is caused by these reasons

1. Genetic factors

Many cases of overbite are related to genetics. Children from families with a history of overbite are much more likely to suffer from overbite than ordinary people.

2. Disease factors

Some diseases can cause an underbite, such as patients with rickets and endocrine diseases. Long-term inflammation of the palatine tonsils or lingual tonsils can also induce an underbite. In addition , if a patient with cleft lip and palate has insufficient maxillary development after surgery, it can also lead to the appearance of an underbite.

3. Bad habits

Bad habits of children in their early childhood are also the culprit for causing overbite. If the baby has the habit of biting the upper lip or protruding the lower jaw, parents should correct it in time to avoid overbite. In addition, attention should also be paid to the baby's breastfeeding posture.

4. Local disorders during tooth replacement period

Children's baby teeth are small and naturally cute, but it would be terrible if they don't fall out or fall out early. This is also one of the causes of overbite. In addition, parents should also pay attention to letting their baby grind their teeth to prevent the baby canines from protruding from the plane of the dental arch.

The above are some of the reasons for the formation of overbite. Parents must pay attention to them and take timely preventive measures to correct them, so as to prevent their children from being troubled by overbite and suffering unnecessary psychological trauma.
