How effective is pediatric massage in removing phlegm?

In the cold winter, babies are prone to symptoms of catching cold, such as coughing with phlegm. If it is not controlled in time, it will become more serious. In this case, you can try acupoint massage, such as rubbing or pushing the lung point, keeping it at about 100 times per minute, the effect will be better; you can also rub the small horizontal lines on the palm, and it is best to stick to 100-500 times at a time; pinching and pushing the small horizontal lines is also OK.

1. Rub or push the lung point

Location:

1.5 inches lateral to the inferior depression of the third thoracic vertebra. When you look down, you can see that the highest vertebra in your neck is the seventh cervical vertebra, and below it is the first thoracic vertebra. That is, the third bone below the seventh cervical vertebra is the third thoracic vertebra.

There is an acupoint on each side of the lung point, and the distance between the two acupoints is exactly the width of the child's four fingers put together (3 inches). Measure the width of the middle finger at the level of the middle knuckle line.

Technique:

1. Rub the lung point: The operator gently holds both sides of the baby's back with four fingers of both hands, places the thumbs of both hands on the lung point, and applies a certain amount of pressure downward to the muscle level. The force should be gentle and do not use brute force. Generally, both fingers rub outwards at the same time.

Knead for 1 to 5 minutes each time, and you can extend the time appropriately depending on the situation.

When kneading, do not move the contact point, keep it fixed at the acupoint, and knead at a speed of 100 to 200 times per minute.

2. Push the lung point: The operator gently holds both sides of the baby's back with four fingers of both hands, and pushes along the inner side of the shoulder blade from top to bottom with the thumbs of both hands. There should be a certain amount of pressing pressure during the operation, and the force should be balanced and gentle, with a speed of 100 times per minute. Each operation takes 1 to 5 minutes, and can be extended appropriately depending on the situation.

2. Rub the small horizontal lines on your palm

Location:

The palmar transverse line is located at the ulnar side of the palm below the base of the little finger.

Technique:

Use the middle finger or thumb to massage 100 to 500 times. It is mainly used to treat cough due to phlegm heat, mouth and tongue ulcers, and sudden cough and drooling.

This method can clear away heat and disperse nodules, expand the chest and promote lung function, relieve cough and resolve phlegm. It is an important acupoint for treating whooping cough and pneumonia, and has a certain effect on treating moist rales in the lungs.

3. Pinch and push the small horizontal lines

Location:

The small horizontal lines are located at the metacarpophalangeal joints of the index, middle, ring and little fingers.

Technique:

1. Pinching and kneading method: Use the thumb nail to pinch and knead the acupoints one by one (you can pinch once and knead three times), which is called pinching and kneading the small horizontal lines.

2. Pushing method: Use the thumb to push the acupoints vertically up and down one by one, or have the child put four fingers together and push the acupoints horizontally back and forth, which is called pushing the small horizontal lines.

Vertical push: 30 to 50 times. Horizontal push: 100 to 300 times.
