What is the reason for the white spots on the child's fingernails?

What is the reason for the white spots on the child's fingernails?

There are many reasons for the appearance of white spots on the nails, such as accidental abrasions, poor digestion, bacterial infection, etc., which may lead to the appearance of white spots on the nails. Normal nails have a smooth pink surface. When other symptoms appear on the nails, it means that there is a problem with the body. Be sure to check in time to find out the cause.

Causes of white spots on children's fingernails

Nails are developed from nail cells. When there is external stimulation or improper nail care, the development function of some nail cells will be hindered. The white spots and fine lines that appear in this case will eventually be removed by us as the nail cells recover and the nails grow outward after a period of time. The growth period for fingernails is 3 months, and for toenails it is 12 months.

The whitening of nails is called "leukonychia", which is divided into four types: dot leukonychia, linear leukonychia, partial leukonychia and complete leukonychia. The small white spots on the nails are a type of leukonychia, the main feature of which is the appearance of one or several white spots of varying sizes, or white cloud-like or white floc-like spots on the nail plate (nail shell).

What are the white spots on the fingernails?

There are three main causes of white nails:

1. The skin around the nails, including the nail bed (the part where the nails grow), suffers some minor damage.

2. Poor spleen, stomach and digestive system, resulting in deficiency of some trace elements or vitamins. White spots or mica-like spots on the nails indicate a lack of trace elements such as calcium and silicon, and the presence of parasites. Such people are prone to nervousness, irritability, and habitual constipation. These phenomena often occur in children aged 8-12 years old, but can also occur in adults.

2. Some fungal infections, ascariasis, syphilis and other diseases may also cause leukonychia.

However, there is no need to worry too much about the appearance of white dots on the nails, because some healthy people may also experience this phenomenon due to temporary nutritional problems. If there are no obvious pathological phenomena, no special treatment is required, just pay attention to diet and rest.
