What to do if your child has low IQ

What to do if your child has low IQ

Everyone's IQ is different, and the same is true for children's IQ. So what should we do if a child has a low IQ? Most of the IQ problems come from genetics and are directly related to the IQ of the parents. Of course, it can also be developed through acquired training. Such children should use their brains frequently, develop a habit of loving learning, and participate in more outdoor sports. In this way, their IQ will gradually improve. Let’s take a look at some of the symptoms of a child with low IQ.

What to do if your child has low IQ

1. Etiological treatment

For those whose causes have been identified, such as chronic diseases, poisoning, long-term malnutrition, hearing and visual impairment, efforts should be made to eliminate the causes as much as possible to partially or completely restore their intelligence; children with endocrine and metabolic abnormalities such as hypothyroidism and phenylketonuria should be diagnosed early and given early thyroid hormone replacement or special diet therapy for phenylketonuria to improve their intelligence level; for MR caused by social, psychological and cultural reasons, changing the environmental conditions, allowing them to live in a friendly and harmonious family, and strengthening their education can make their intelligence improve.

2. Training and rehabilitation

Through the application of medical, social, educational and vocational training measures, patients are trained according to their age and severity of MR to achieve the highest possible intellectual level.

Signs of low IQ in children

1. Abnormal crying, that is, it takes a long time from stimulation to crying, and sometimes repeated or continuous stimulation is needed to induce crying, or the crying is sharp, or small and weak. Some children do not like to cry and appear unusually "well-behaved".

2. Babies have poor sucking ability and start chewing late, so they are prone to swallowing disorders and vomiting when eating solid food.

3. Sleeping too much and difficult to wake up.

4. The baby who is over 100 days old cannot hold his head up or has difficulty turning his head, and one or both eyes are constantly looking inward or outward. The baby will not smile until he is 100 days old, and his expression is dull. By 6 months, he cannot show a natural smile.

5. After half a year, the actions of looking at and playing with hands still persist.

Whether a child is smart or not, he or she is the best in the eyes of his or her parents. Although, less intelligent children may react more slowly, have lower learning abilities, and weaker memories, these do not affect the children's status in their parents' minds at all. However, the reality is cruel. Many opportunities are reserved for those who are prepared, so parents hope that their children can be one step ahead and perform well. Therefore, when dealing with children with low IQ, parents should be more patient in guiding their children and helping them overcome difficulties.
