When should newborns take vitamin D?

It is very important to supplement nutrients and vitamins for newborns. Only a balanced amount of trace elements and nutrients in the body can ensure the normal growth and development of newborns. Therefore, in addition to the baby's normal diet and breastfeeding, it is usually necessary to supplement the vitamins in the body through medication or vitamin-rich foods. Generally, newborns can take vitamins two months after birth, and they can be taken before or after feeding.

1. Newborns generally need to take vitamin D1 after 2 to 3 months. It is recommended to take the child to the hospital to check the trace elements and give the child oral icosin for treatment. In daily life, children must be allowed to get more sun exposure, which will be beneficial for calcium absorption. If breastfeeding, mothers should avoid consuming irritating foods. It is best to feed one pill before going to bed at night. It can be fed before or after feeding without affecting the efficacy. Vitamin D3 drops: take two pills before going to bed every night, and then change to one pill after the baby's night sleep improves.

2. However, under normal circumstances, full-term newborns need to supplement vitamin D from the 15th day after birth. Generally, one capsule of cod liver oil contains 900 mg of vitamin A and 300 mg of vitamin D respectively. One capsule a day is enough. It depends on the baby's condition. It is very important to supplement vitamin D because it is also the key to calcium supplementation. Lack of vitamin D can also cause calcium loss. Therefore, generally vitamin D can be used to prevent rickets 2 weeks after the baby is born. According to the relevant regulations of my country's maternal and child health care system, vitamin D is supplemented to prevent rickets, with infants under 1 year old as the focus. Vitamin D can be taken daily until the age of 2 years. It is systematically managed until 3 years of age, with a recommended intake of 400 IU/day.

3. Get more sun exposure. The 7-dehydrocholesterol in the skin can be converted into vitamin D through ultraviolet rays, which promotes calcium absorption and makes bones strong. The specific situation should depend on the season. Baby's skin is delicate and should be protected. In summer, you can choose to do it under the shade of a tree or with an umbrella, or just after the sun comes out or before sunset; in spring and autumn, you can take your children to play outdoors often. In winter, when the weather is fine, you can take your children outdoors for more activities and let them bask in the sun, preferably around noon.

4. Appropriate supplementation of vitamin D, usually 400 international units/day. Premature babies should start supplementing 2 weeks after birth, while full-term babies should start after one month. Within 3 months after birth, you can use 800 international units per day, and then reduce to 400 international units per day. At the same time, add calcium powder in appropriate amount. After the age of 2 or 3, the baby's growth rate slows down and outdoor activities increase, so there is generally no need to take vitamin D.
