How often should newborn diapers be changed?

Nowadays, many parents put diapers on their babies for convenience, but babies cannot wear diapers all the time, so diapers should be prepared for the baby when the baby does not wear diapers. If the baby does not wear diapers, the diaper will always be wet. However, the baby's diapers must be changed and washed in time, otherwise bacteria may breed, which is extremely harmful to the baby's body. So how often should a newborn's diaper be changed?

1 Change baby diapers every 3 to 4 hours. Baby diapers need to be changed frequently, on average every 3 to 4 hours.

As the baby grows older, the number of changes can be gradually reduced from an average of about 10 times a day to 6 to 8 times. Reason: Both urine and poop are irritating to the baby's delicate skin. If the diaper is not changed in time, the delicate skin will become congested. In mild cases, the skin will become red or develop diaper rash. In severe cases, it may also rot, ulcerate, and peel, so mothers must change the diaper in time.

2 Change the baby's diaper when it is wet. Generally speaking, once the baby's diaper is dirty or wet, the mother should change it in time, otherwise it is easy to get diaper rash.

3 Change diapers when the baby wakes up in the morning. The first thing to do when the baby wakes up in the morning is to check whether the diaper is wet or dry. Usually, after a night, the baby's diaper is almost always wet and needs to be changed in time.

4. Change diapers before going to bed. Be sure to change the baby's diaper before going to bed. The baby will sleep better and more comfortably after changing it. If you don't change the diaper, the baby's little butt will easily get eczema.

5. Check and change diapers in time

Although newborn babies cannot speak, they know how to use crying to remind their mothers. When you hear your baby crying, the mother should put her hand into the baby's diaper to check. Normally, mothers should also check their baby's diaper at any time to see if it is wet. You can put your hand under the diaper. If the diaper is heavy, it means the baby's diaper needs to be changed.

6 It is not advisable to change diapers after the baby drinks milk. Mothers should not change diapers after the baby drinks milk, because the lying position can easily cause the baby to spit up milk.

7 Correct steps for changing your baby's diaper

Step 1: Take off the baby's pants, tear off the adhesive tape of the old diaper, lift the baby's legs with one hand, mainly holding the ankles, and gently lift the legs to raise the buttocks. If your baby has a bowel movement, wash the stool off with warm water first.

Step 2: Use baby wipes to gently clean the baby's buttocks from front to back. Do not wipe back and forth to prevent anal bacteria from infecting the baby's urethra. If you wipe with warm water, use a dry towel to wipe the moisture off your buttocks.

Step 3: Be prepared in advance for diaper changes and change them quickly. Straighten the new diaper, flatten the back waist and place it under the baby's buttocks, then put down the baby's legs.

Step 4: Paste according to the instructions in the paste area.

Step 5: Pull the leak-proof edge of the diaper outwards to prevent side leakage.

8 Things to note when changing baby diapers

1. Don’t wrap the diaper too tightly, as it will suffocate the baby’s delicate and sensitive skin and make it inconvenient for the baby to move. The size of the crotch should also be suitable for the baby's body shape so as not to affect the baby's leg movements.

2. The thickness of diapers varies according to gender. Diapers for baby girls should be thicker in the middle, while diapers for baby boys should be thicker in the front. At the same time, do not let the diaper rise above your belly button to avoid infection.

3. Do not use tissues to wipe your baby’s buttocks. After the baby has a bowel movement, you cannot use tissue paper to wipe the baby's buttocks, because it is easy to scratch the baby's buttocks skin and cause infection and swelling around the anus. You can directly wash the baby's buttocks with clean water and dry them with a cotton cloth with good water absorption.
