How to judge whether the newborn has high jaundice

There are many patients with neonatal jaundice in our lives. In fact, most neonatal jaundice is physiological and does not require treatment. It can disappear on its own as long as it is exposed to the sun frequently. Only patients with severe jaundice need treatment. In addition, breastfeeding should be stopped as much as possible during neonatal jaundice. During treatment, light should be avoided from shining into the child's eyes. So how to judge whether the neonatal jaundice is high?

What to do if a newborn baby has jaundice?

1. How to care for neonatal jaundice? You should first confirm the type of jaundice. Physiological jaundice generally does not require treatment and will subside naturally. If it is found to be pathological jaundice, the doctor must examine and identify the cause and then treat it appropriately. If the baby has severe jaundice 2 to 7 days after birth, it is easy to cause "kernicterus" and cause neurological sequelae, which requires early intervention and treatment.

2. Pathological jaundice is generally treated with blue light irradiation. During phototherapy, the baby's eyes and perineum should be shielded. At the same time, the doctor will prescribe medicine to reduce jaundice. Generally speaking, the stomach of a newborn is very sensitive to medicine, so vomiting may occur. Mothers should not panic and deal with it in time.

3. If the jaundice has not completely subsided after the baby is discharged from the hospital, you can expose the baby's skin to direct sunlight, and pay attention to shielding the eyes from partial light, which will help the jaundice subside. If it is breast milk jaundice, you can stop breastfeeding for 3 days and switch to artificial feeding, which will help the jaundice subside.

Western medicine treatment of neonatal jaundice

1. Phototherapy: The newborn lies naked in a phototherapy box, with both eyes and testicles covered with black cloth, and is irradiated with single or double light for 24-48 hours. The treatment can be stopped when the bilirubin drops below 7 mg/L.

2. Enzyme inducers: Phenobarbital is commonly used, dosage: 5-6 mg/kg/day. It can heal itself. Feeding more sugar water can accelerate the disappearance of jaundice, and no treatment is needed. However, if the jaundice is more serious, phototherapy should be given and further examination should be carried out to prevent mixed pathological jaundice.

3. Exchange blood transfusion: Exchange blood transfusion is the fastest way to treat high cholesterol. It is mainly used for severe hemolytic disease caused by maternal and fetal blood type incompatibility. It can timely replace antibodies and sensitized red blood cells, reduce hemolysis, reduce serum bilirubin concentration, prevent bilirubin encephalopathy, correct anemia, and prevent heart failure.
