Massage techniques for diarrhea in children

Massage techniques for diarrhea in children

Children will have many uncomfortable symptoms after they get sick. It is very troublesome for parents when their children are sick, because parents usually cannot give their children medicine. Children are very resistant to medicine, and the medicine often has no effect after being fed, which will delay the disease. In fact, children with diarrhea can use massage techniques instead of taking medicine. Next, I will teach you the massage techniques for children with diarrhea.

Massage techniques for children with diarrhea

Massaging the abdomen, rubbing the navel, rubbing the seven sections of the coccyx is a commonly used method of pediatric massage to treat diarrhea in infants and young children. The basic techniques include rubbing the abdomen, rubbing the navel, rubbing the coccyx, and pushing the seven sections.

1. Abdominal massage: Use one palm to gently circle the child's abdomen, with the navel as the center, from small to large, to the entire abdomen, for about 2 to 3 minutes. Rub counterclockwise for two minutes, then rub clockwise for one minute.

2. Rub the navel:

Use the spiral surface of the tips of your index, middle, and ring fingers to massage the navel with a little more force (press the three fingers on the navel until you feel something pressing against them) for about 1 to 2 minutes. Be careful not to use too much force when kneading, otherwise the child will feel uncomfortable and cry, affecting the treatment.

3. Rub the coccyx: The coccyx is located at the end of the coccyx on the back. Use your middle finger to press and rub the coccyx point with the same force as rubbing the navel for about 2 to 3 minutes. The force of kneading can be slightly greater than that of kneading the navel. If the child feels uncomfortable and cries, the force of kneading can be reduced.

4. Push up the seven vertebrae: The seven vertebrae are the seven vertebrae at the tail end of the spine on the back, counting seven vertebrae from the coccyx upwards. Use your index and middle fingers to push and rub from the coccyx point upwards along the seventh joint with brisk movements, about 100 times per minute, for about 100 to 300 times. Before performing the pushing and rubbing technique, be sure to apply a medium, such as lubricating oil, talcum powder, etc., locally to avoid scratching the child's delicate skin.

The above method can be repeated alternately, and the total treatment time for each treatment is about 20 minutes. Generally, massage 1 to 2 times a day. For those with severe diarrhea, massage 3 to 4 times a day. During this period, the child should drink plenty of water, eat light and easily digestible food, and eat small and frequent meals.

Precautions for pediatric massage

1. When performing pediatric massage, you should choose a room with fresh air, suitable temperature and sufficient light, which will be more conducive to diagnosing the child's condition. Since children need to remove some of their clothes during the massage process, you should pay attention to avoiding wind during and after the massage treatment to prevent children from catching cold.

2. Although pediatric massage mainly operates on acupoints on the arm and the method is simple, it should also be guided by the theoretical basis of traditional Chinese medicine and scientific acupoint selection to achieve better results.

3. Because children's skin and flesh are delicate and easily injured, you should choose a suitable massage medium during the massage process, use light, soft, steady and firm techniques, and avoid being rough.
