Newborn's head always tilts to one side

The head of a newborn is always tilted to one side. Some people think this is cute, but as a parent, you should pay attention to this and correct your child in time. If it is serious, you should check it out. This may be related to torticollis. This situation will have an adverse effect on the child's health. For example, it may cause the child to have a tilted head and facial asymmetry.

Newborn's head always tilts to one side

Newborn babies always like to tilt their heads to one side, which some people think looks cute, but this cute posture may be torticollis. When the baby lies on his back, his head always unconsciously tilts to one direction, a bit like he is deliberately tilting his head. This can usually be discovered when the baby is half a month to one month old.

The cause of torticollis is the inconsistent tightness of the two muscles on both sides of the neck. Because these two muscles are slightly damaged during the mother's childbirth. Whether it is a vaginal birth or a cesarean section, there will be a pulling action when the midwife helps the fetus to be delivered or takes the baby out of the uterus. Moreover, it is difficult for the midwife to ensure that the force of both hands is completely even during this process. This may cause slight damage to one of the baby's sternocleidomastoid muscles.

What is the effect of the newborn's head preference on the baby?

The biggest problem with torticollis is that it may cause the baby's head to tilt. Severe head tilt or crookedness may cause the baby's face to be asymmetrical, with the eyes and ears not in a straight line. This will in turn affect the baby's vision, hearing, tooth development, and so on. It would be very troublesome to correct it at that time.

To relieve baby's torticollis, mothers can massage the sternocleidomastoid muscle on the relatively hard side of the baby. First, straighten the baby's head, and use the middle fingers of both hands to touch the muscles behind the earlobe line on both sides at the same time, namely the sternocleidomastoid muscle, and use the middle fingers to continuously rub the harder muscles.

Babies always like to tilt their heads to one side, and mothers can help them correct it. When the baby is sleeping, the mother can use a hot towel to apply to the baby's neck to promote blood circulation and flow, but be careful not to use too high a temperature to avoid damaging the baby's delicate skin. At the same time, when playing with your baby, you can use toys to attract the baby's attention to correct it.
