I used the flash to take photos of my baby.

In life, many people like to take pictures of their babies. For some parents, recording their baby's every smile is very important, and most parents want to leave some memories for their children's growth. At this time, taking pictures is the best choice. However, when taking pictures of babies, you should try to use less flash, otherwise it will irritate the baby's eyes. So what should you do if you use the flash when taking pictures of your baby?

1. Are newborns sensitive to light stimulation?

Newborns spend ten long months in their mother's womb, and these ten months are in darkness. When they are born into this bright world, they are quite sensitive to the stimulation of light. When taking pictures of your baby, using the flash will cause great stimulation to the baby's eyes.

2. The camera is close to the baby's eyes. Is it harmful to the baby?

The various organs of a newborn's body are not yet fully developed, the visual cells on the retina of the eye are in an unstable state, the pupil is not sensitive to light, the tear glands are not developed, and the cornea is dry. The stimulation of strong light can cause impact damage to the visual cells and affect the child's vision. The closer the camera is to the eye, the greater the damage.

3. Does the baby’s eyes have the ability to protect themselves?

If older babies are exposed to strong light, they will protect themselves through various reflexes such as blinking, pupil constriction, and tearing. The retinal nerve cells of newborns or infants are not yet fully developed. Once they encounter the instantaneous strong stimulation of the flash, it may cause changes in the retinal nerve cells, affecting the baby's future visual function. The eyes of newborns do not have the ability to protect themselves, so you must not use flash when taking pictures of your baby.

It is recommended to avoid using flash when taking photos of infants under six months old. When taking photos of your baby, you can use side lighting, back lighting, or natural light. Be sure not to use flash or shine strong light directly on your baby's face.
