Don't buy these five types of cakes for your children

Many families prepare some desserts such as small cakes for their children to enjoy at any time. Here are a few things to note when buying cakes.

1. Try not to buy cakes with hydrogenated vegetable oil.

Currently, the "fresh milk" on most cakes is hydrogenated vegetable oil, and hydrogenated vegetable oil or margarine is also added to the puff pastry below. The traditional choice is to add real cream and butter.

2. Try not to buy puff pastry.

Puff pastry means a lot of fat has to be added and has very little nutritional value. In current situations, vegetable shortening is usually added, which contains trans fats.

As high-energy foods, cheesecake is better because at least cheese contains a lot of vitamins A, B vitamins and protein, while shortening contains nothing but some trans fats.

3. Try not to buy cakes with a lot of added pigments and flavors.

The colors inside and outside the cake should be as close to the original colors as possible. Except for a small amount of embellishment, it is best to avoid using strong colors. The best smell is mild and natural. That kind of strong fragrance usually means a lot of cheap flavors have been added.

4. Don’t pursue the so-called “healthy” effect of adding fruit to cake.

Most of the fruits in fruitcakes are canned fruits, which have no nutritional value. The few kiwi slices, strawberries, etc. are not fresh enough, and the quantity is very small. They are just for embellishment. It is better to buy fresh fruits directly.

5. Don't buy cakes with white or dark chocolate chips.

Most of the chocolate used in cake shops is cocoa butter substitute chocolate, which contains trans fat but almost no cocoa polyphenols, and its health value is negative.
