How to treat strawberry hemangioma in baby?

Generally speaking, the skin of a newborn baby is relatively smooth, tender to the touch, and feels very good. However, there are some exceptions. For example, some babies will have red spots on certain parts of their skin after birth, and they appear in patches. After examination, we found out that this condition is medically called strawberry hemangioma, which is very scary. So how to treat strawberry hemangioma in babies?

Treatment principle: The second-generation new photosensitizer (Hemoporfin) is injected into the body through the intravenous route. Immediately after intravenous injection, Hemoporfin forms a peak concentration in the blood and is rapidly absorbed by vascular endothelial cells, while the epidermal cells absorb very little. Therefore, the distribution of photosensitizer forms an obvious concentration difference between vascular endothelial cells and epidermal cells. At this time, light of a specific wavelength that can penetrate superficially and be selectively absorbed by vascular endothelial cells is irradiated, causing heimporfin to produce phototoxic substances such as singlet oxygen, and the dilated and malformed capillary network in the affected area that is rich in heimporfin is selectively destroyed. The normal epidermis covering the dilated and malformed capillary network is not damaged because it does not contain heimporfin, and the normal deep dermis tissue under the dilated and malformed capillary network is protected because the laser penetration is shallow and it is difficult to reach an effective excitation amount.

Photosensitizers previously developed in China, such as YHpD (photoporphyrin) and HpD (hematoporphyrin derivative), are all mixtures of multiple components with complex components, making it difficult to achieve stable and standardized quality control. They are also slowly excreted from the body, and the photosensitivity reaction of the skin lasts for 1 to 3 months after use, and even up to 6 months in some patients. This brings great inconvenience to post-treatment care and the patient's work and life.

Hematoporphyrin monomethyl ether (HMME) is rapidly distributed in the body, cleared quickly, and not easily accumulated, thus overcoming the main side effect of photodynamic therapy - persistent phototoxic reaction of normal tissues. Patients only need to avoid light for a few days. It greatly facilitates clinical treatment and further improves photodynamic therapy.
