How to educate children who take other people's things

For parents, the education of children is the most troublesome issue for them. In fact, many parents do not have high expectations for their children, but they all hope that their children can at least be good citizens with integrity, kindness and moral sense. Therefore, when parents find that their children take other people's things, they feel very disappointed. At this time, excessive criticism is a very wrong approach. They need to understand clearly the reasons why the children take other people's things and then educate them ideologically.

1

The reason why the child "takes" is because he does not realize that this is a wrong behavior.

Generally speaking, there are three factors that cause children to steal other people's things:

First, out of curiosity, he feels that he has never played with this toy before, so he longs to get it and wants to own it.

Second, parents do not keep their promises, which results in their children not being able to get what they want for a long time and having to get it outside;

Third, children find it exciting to steal other people’s things. As long as they don’t tell anyone, no one else will know.

Suddenly I remembered that when I was young, I promised my good friends to treat them to delicious food. Later, I asked my parents for pocket money but they didn't agree. I went to my neighbor's house to play with her and accidentally found 10 yuan on the table. So I took it to a small supermarket and bought a bunch of snacks to treat my good friends.

Eventually the truth came out and he was endlessly blamed and beaten by his parents, and his good friends gradually distanced themselves from him. I was deeply impressed and ashamed by this incident.

When children behave like this by stealing other people's things, parents should not scold or beat them directly. Not only will it hurt the child's self-esteem, but it will also not make the child realize that his or her behavior is wrong. It may even cause children to feel hatred and inferiority complex.

When they are young, many children have the experience and habit of stealing other people's things. They don't realize that stealing is a vile, wrong act. In life, parents should trust their children and never doubt their children's character. Only with correct guidance and education can children get rid of bad habits.

2

Being more rational, maintaining a good attitude and giving correct guidance can help children develop good character and behavioral habits.

I have a friend named Lily who also shared with me an incident from her childhood. One of their relatives opened a small supermarket, and she would often go there to play when she was a child. Every time she went, she would secretly take some snacks home.

She thought her relatives didn't know she had stolen something. So every time I went there, I would steal things, such as pens, notebooks, and all kinds of things. When no one was around, she hid the things and acted very calmly, just like a thief.

Their relatives saw all of this and felt that if they didn't intervene and continued indulgence and neglect, the child would be ruined. So the relative took advantage of the two of them being together and told her a story from her childhood with great earnestness:

When she was about 7 years old, she really wanted to buy a New Year's dress. One day, while strolling around the store, she noticed that all the employees were busy. While no one was around, she secretly took a piece of clothing and ran out of the store. She was very scared at the time and felt like she had committed a crime.

She was very hesitant. What if she was discovered and someone caught up with her? What if someone refused to forgive her and called the police? What if the police came to arrest her? The more she thought about it, the more uneasy she felt. She blamed herself. Why did she turn herself into a thief just for a piece of clothing? Wasn't it not worth it?

Lily suddenly understood what her relative meant. Her face turned red and she felt very embarrassed. She took the initiative to admit her mistake and said she would never steal other people's things again.

This simple little story, without any scolding or accusation, makes the children realize their mistakes and bravely admit them. Isn’t this way of education more reasonable and worthy of learning for every parent? It is recommended that parents pay attention to the methods and approaches when educating their children in this regard.

Through research, we also learned that many parents find that their children steal things and generally have the following ways to deal with it:

A. Severe punishment type: Some parents, once they find out their children have stolen something, will either beat or scold them, thinking how could their children do such a thing? They must punish them severely and beat them until they realize the seriousness of the matter.

B. The indifferent type: Some parents think that their children definitely did not steal things on purpose, so they help them find excuses. Since the children are still young, they handle the matter indifferently and do not educate them, letting the matter go.

C. Patient teaching type: Some parents will make it clear to their children that stealing other people’s things is a very shameful behavior, and they must return them and actively admit their mistakes. Patient education helps children learn to control their behavior.

As children grow up, they are bound to make mistakes. When parents discover that their children are stealing, how can they educate them better?

1. Appropriate criticism and punishment help children establish rules

If some parents think that only beating can make their children remember the lesson, they can punish them once. Of course, this is only aimed at those parents who are reluctant to beat or scold their children and end up raising them to be arrogant and domineering. Hit your child once in a while, and hit him hard so that he will remember it. And you have to set up "rules" for him to know what he can and cannot do.

Appropriate criticism and punishment are necessary, but you should maintain your child's self-esteem outside and don't beat or scold them casually, otherwise it will cause children to be disgusted and reject them. Of course, I do not support violent education. I don’t think it can solve any problems at all. It is recommended that parents use more scientific methods to help their children overcome bad habits.

2. Deal with children’s problems in a timely manner and let them know right from wrong

If parents find their children stealing things, they will not take it seriously if they think the children are too young. If this continues for a long time, the child will develop bad habits of stealing when he grows up. When problems are discovered, parents should deal with them in a timely manner and let their children know what is right and wrong.

In daily life, parents should also let their children know which things belong to them and which things belong to others. If you want something that belongs to someone else, you must get their permission. Parents must help their children form a concept of ownership and correct bad habits.

3. Be more patient and help your children develop a correct sense of right and wrong

When parents find out that their children have stolen something, they must remain calm and never look down on their children. Control your emotions and let your child express his or her own thoughts. In addition, parents also encourage their children to return the items in a timely manner and apologize proactively.

If the child does not have the courage to return the item, the parents can accompany the child to return the item to the original owner. Afterwards, strict supervision and more patient education are also required. Let children know that stealing is unacceptable, and parents should also help children form correct concepts of right and wrong.
