How long should you hold the baby upright after feeding?

There are some things you need to pay attention to when feeding your baby, especially holding the baby upright after feeding to prevent the baby from spitting up, spitting up milk or burping. Generally, after feeding, hold the baby up, let the baby's head lie on your shoulders, and gently pat the baby's back. This will help the milk enter the stomach better. So how long should you hold the baby like this?

1. After feeding, pick up the baby and let his head rest on your shoulder. Gently pat his back to make him burp. This will allow the milk to fully enter the stomach and prevent milk overflow or choking.

2. Generally speaking, in 25-degree weather, babies only need to wear two thin clothes. You can feel the baby's body temperature (the body temperature of a newborn is higher than that of an adult) and decide according to the situation.

3. You should pay attention to prevent your baby from colds. If there is phlegm in the mouth or nasal cavity, please clean it in time. If it is difficult to clean, you can go to the hospital for cleaning. You should sleep on your side.

The best preventive measure is to burp your baby frequently during feedings, even before he or she becomes uncomfortable. Because temporarily stopping feedings and constantly changing positions can slow your baby's swallowing and reduce the amount of air he swallows. If you are bottle-feeding your baby, burp him/her every 150ml. If your baby is breastfed, burp him/her while you switch breasts.

It is recommended that when breastfeeding, the child's mouth should cover the entire nipple and pacifier, leaving no gaps to prevent air from entering. After feeding, it is best to let the child lie on the adult's shoulder. You can control the time yourself, about a few minutes, and then pat the child's back with your hands to allow the inhaled air to escape. After feeding, be gentle and use less movement when picking up and putting your baby down. If you shake the baby too vigorously, it will easily cause milk to regurgitate or spit up.

If your baby spits up milk, it may be because he feeds too much at one time, you tease the baby after feeding, or you put the baby in bed immediately.

After the baby feeds, you can pat his back to help expel excess gas and reduce bloating and spitting up. This will only take about 10-15 minutes. Try to avoid teasing the baby after feeding.

Because the baby's stomach is in a horizontal position and the pyloric sphincter is not yet fully developed, it is easy for the baby to spit up milk if he is put on the bed right after eating.

After feeding, it is best to hold the baby upright with his head resting on the mother's shoulder, pat his back gently to expel the gas in his stomach, and then hold him for about half an hour.
