How to calculate the height of a child?

The height of children is a matter of great concern to parents, because height is the basic physical condition for children's future development. Those who are taller than the average standard are more likely to get good opportunities for development. Therefore, it is very necessary to pay attention to children's height and help them grow healthily. First of all, we need to calculate the height potential of children. Let's take a look at how to calculate children's height.

Future height can be predicted

How tall a child will grow in the future is something that parents are more concerned about, especially those parents who are not very tall themselves. They want to know as soon as possible how tall their children will grow in the future.

1. Current height prediction method

The current height prediction method is also called the Walker prediction method. This height prediction method uses the following formula to predict the child's future height based on the child's current height: Hm=A+B×C

Hm in the formula is the child's future adult height, A is a fixed value, B is the coefficient of the corresponding age, and C is the child's height at that time. Due to differences around the world, the error is 3 cm.

Facts have proved that this method of predicting children's height is basically suitable for my country's national conditions. However, for children who mature early or late, the predicted values may be too high or too low.

2. Foot length and height prediction method

Adult height = foot length at 13 years old × 7.

Using this method to predict a child's future height is simpler and more convenient, with an error of no more than 3 cm.

3. Parents' height prediction method

Based on this principle, a European scientist created a formula to predict height based on the relationship between parents' height and children's height:

Son's height in centimeters = father's height + mother's height × 1.08 ÷ 2

Daughter's height in centimeters = father's height × 0.923 + mother's height ÷ 2

This formula basically conforms to the genetic laws of "tall plus tall produces tall", "dwarf plus dwarf produces short", and "tall plus dwarf produces tall". This formula is calculated based on genetic principles and the height growth rate of Europeans.

In order to make this prediction formula more suitable for my country's national conditions, Chinese scientists "applied foreign ideas to my country's own needs" and changed the coefficients in the formula to 1.11-1.12 for boys and 0.948-0.980 for girls, based on the relationship between the heights of Han children and their parents in central China. In this way, the calculated results are more in line with my country's actual situation.
