What are the symptoms of night terrors in children?

Children's night terrors are a very common sleep disorder. Generally, the main symptom is extreme panic and frightened movements in the baby during sleep. Everyone knows that sleep is very important for babies, but if a child often has night terrors, it will not only affect the baby's sleep, but also affect the baby's growth and development. Actively treating night terrors is very important for babies.

Differential diagnosis:

1. Clinical manifestations

1. Repeated episodes of waking up from sleep with a startled scream, accompanied by intense anxiety, body movements, and autonomic hyperactivity (such as tachycardia, rapid breathing, and sweating).

2. It usually occurs within a short period of time after sleep at night, and each attack lasts 1 to 10 minutes.

3. Lack of response to attempts by others to calm the night terror, almost always accompanied by at least several minutes of disorientation and sustained movements.

4. Forgetting afterwards, even if recall is possible, it is extremely limited (usually limited to one or two partial representations).

5. Secondary night terrors caused by non-organic diseases (such as dementia, brain tumors, epilepsy, etc.), nor febrile convulsions and epileptic seizures.

(II) Night terrors should be differentiated from the following diseases:

1. Nightmares. Nightmares are just ordinary "bad dreams". Even if there are night terrors, there are only very limited speech and body movements. Nightmares can occur at any time of the night, mostly during the rapid eye movement sleep stage, while night terrors mostly occur during the non-rapid eye movement sleep stage. Nightmares can easily awaken people, and the dream can be recalled in detail and vividly.

2. Epileptic seizures. Epilepsy rarely occurs only at night and has typical abnormal EEG manifestations.

examine:

(I) Trace element determination:

Trace elements play an extremely important role in the human body. Their deficiency or excess is closely related to human health. Trace elements have a special affinity with hair. Trace elements in the body accumulate in the hair. Excessive or low levels of trace elements indicate the risk of certain diseases. Testing of hair trace elements can predict physical condition, which is one of the economical and scientific health testing methods.

(ii) Electroencephalogram:

The graph obtained by amplifying and recording the spontaneous biopotential of the brain from the scalp through sophisticated electronic instruments is the spontaneous and rhythmic electrical activity of groups of brain cells recorded by electrodes. Conventional EEG, dynamic EEG monitoring, video EEG monitoring.

4. Treatment principles:

1. Occasional attacks do not require special treatment. Arrange children's lives in a regular manner to avoid excessive fatigue and overexcitement during the day. Don't tell exciting stories or watch thrilling or frightening movies before bed, and don't use threatening methods to coax children to sleep. Let children fully relax before going to bed and fall asleep peacefully in a relaxed and happy mood.

2. If the attacks occur frequently, small doses of benzodiazepines or chlorpromazine can be given.
