What to do about infant acne

What to do about infant acne

As we all know, acne is a skin disease that is common among teenagers. It is also known as "blackheads" or "pimples" among the people. In fact, some newborns also develop acne. The main reason why newborns develop acne is that they obtain male hormones from their mothers when they are in the fetus, and after birth, their sebaceous glands secrete too much, which causes acne. So how is this situation treated clinically?

What to do if baby gets acne

Acne, which people usually call "pimples" or "blackheads", is a common skin disease among teenagers. But it is not uncommon for acne to occur in newborns. The facial skin of a baby is extremely delicate. If not properly cared for, the rash may become infected, fester, and ulcerate. After healing, keloids or small sunken pits will form, affecting the child's appearance and even causing lifelong regrets. Therefore, when the baby has acne on his face, the mother should not take it lightly. You can use Shi’s Herbal Acne Cream, which is extracted from pure Chinese medicine. It is gentle on acne, does not contain hormones, and can safely remove acne without leaving marks.

Why does neonatal acne occur?

The occurrence of neonatal acne is mainly because the baby obtains too much male hormone from the mother before birth, which will stimulate the secretion of sebaceous glands after birth. The baby's facial sebaceous glands are well developed. Excessive sebum secretion will accumulate in the hair follicles, causing acne-like follicular papules to form on the skin, which appear like "acne". Generally speaking, "acne" on the face of a newborn will disappear on its own a few weeks after birth, and most of them will leave no traces. Some children develop pustular and papular lesions, which will leave six pit-like scars after healing. In some children, the rash does not subside for a long time and is prone to relapse during puberty. Infants with severe acne should be sent to the hospital for treatment to consider whether they have precocious puberty or abnormal masculinization.

How to diagnose whether your baby has acne?

Those occurring within 3 months are almost always male babies. It occurs between 3 months and 2 years old, and is slightly more common in male babies than in female babies. The skin lesions begin as scattered blackheads, and a few may develop papules and pustules, occasionally nodules or cysts. It often occurs on the cheeks, but can also affect the forehead and chin. Acne can disappear within a few weeks, and papules and pustules can heal within 6 months, leaving depressed scars after healing. In a few cases, the disease may persist for more than a year and relapse more easily during adolescence.

How to care for newborn acne? Parents should do the following:

1. Pay attention to your baby's skin hygiene. Wash your baby's face with warm water every day, apply some baby soap, rub gently and rinse, and use a clean, soft, dry towel to wipe off the water on the face. Then squeeze some milk and apply it on your face to moisturize your skin.

2. Prevent squeezing and provide appropriate treatment. When parents find acne on their children's faces, they must not squeeze them with their hands. Sulfur preparations can be applied externally to promote smooth sebum secretion. If the infection is severe, antibiotics should be used rationally under the guidance of a dermatologist.

3. Mothers should pay attention to dietary balance, eat less candy and sweets, avoid high-fat and spicy foods, and eat more fresh vegetables and fruits. This will help the cleanliness of breast milk, and the child will benefit from the recovery of the milk.

4. Let your baby drink more boiled water, do not feed him sugar water or other beverages, and pay attention to the child's smooth bowel movements to prevent constipation.
