Symptoms of overeating in babies

Babies have a very low sense of autonomy and have no concept of fullness or hunger. When they are hungry, they will cry loudly to remind their parents that it is time to feed them. However, parents often find it harder to notice when their baby is full than when they are hungry. They have no idea about their baby’s eating and this can easily lead to their baby overeating. When a baby eats too much, it will affect his digestive function and make him feel very uncomfortable. So what are the symptoms of a baby after eating too much?

Babies generally feel satisfied when they are full. If the baby smiles at you after feeding, or falls asleep after a while without crying or making a fuss, it means the baby is full. If a baby who is eating infant formula pushes the bottle away with his tongue, turns his head to the side, or keeps trying to push the bottle away with his little hands, it basically means that he doesn't want to eat anymore and is full.

2. Urinary and fecal

Careful mothers will find that sometimes the baby’s poop is different from usual. In fact, from the baby’s urine and feces, you can tell whether the baby is full or not. Babies who are breastfed generally have bowel movements 3-4 times a day, while babies who are formula-fed have bowel movements twice a day, which are golden yellow and paste-like. If your baby is not full, he or she will have fewer bowel movements. If the patient urinates more than 6 times a day and the urine is light yellow or colorless, it means that the amount of milk consumed is sufficient.

You can measure your baby's weight regularly and observe his weight gain to determine whether the amount of milk is sufficient. Generally, babies aged 0-3 months old gain an average of more than 150 grams per week, and babies aged 3-6 months old gain an average of about 105 grams per week. If your baby is gaining weight slowly, he may not be getting enough milk.

Mothers will notice that on average, the baby can be heard swallowing a large mouthful every 2-3 sucks. If this continues for about 15 minutes, the baby is basically full. If the baby only sucks but does not swallow or swallows very little, it means that the mother's milk supply is insufficient and the baby will often not be full.
