The child fell and landed on his head

Children will encounter some problems more or less during their growth process. Children falling sick is a common occurrence for parents. However, not all parents have encountered the situation where their children fall and hit their heads on the ground. In fact, it is sometimes very dangerous for a child to fall and hit his head on the ground, but sometimes it will not have any impact. So, how do we judge whether it is serious if a child falls and hits his head on the ground?

Is it serious if a baby falls on the back of his head?

If your baby falls and his head hits the ground, it's not a big deal if he doesn't fall. Teach you how to judge whether your baby is okay:

1. Did you cry after falling?

If your baby starts crying after falling, there is little chance of brain injury. If the baby does not cry after falling, and becomes unconscious or comatose, you should go to the hospital.

2. Is there any change in consciousness half an hour after the fall?

Observe whether the baby's consciousness changes within half an hour after the fall. If the baby does not have a headache or vomiting and is conscious after the fall, it means that the collision was minor and there is no problem.

3. Are there any adverse reactions?

If your baby shows symptoms such as incoordination of limb movements, inability to wake up from sleep, vomiting, etc., he should be taken to the hospital for treatment immediately. If the back of the head is facing downwards and there is no bleeding, but just a small swelling, the mother can just apply a cold towel to reduce the swelling.

How long should you observe a baby who falls on his head?

The baby's skull and blood vessels are relatively soft and elastic. It is easy to reset after a bump, unless the fall is particularly severe. However, if you fall on the back of your head, you must pay special attention. The brain stem and spinal cord are located at the back of the head. If injured, it can easily be life-threatening. If a child accidentally falls and hits his head, parents must treat it with caution and keep observation for 24 hours. Pay attention to whether the child has any abnormalities in consciousness or mental state, and whether he or she has symptoms such as coma or drowsiness. If your child has a headache, vomiting, convulsions, or abnormal vital signs such as breathing or blood pressure, he or she should be taken to the doctor for examination immediately.

Is it serious if a baby falls on the back of his head? Since important tissues such as the brain stem and cerebral marrow are located in the back of the head, falling on the back of the head and injuring these tissues can cause more serious consequences. However, parents do not need to worry too much. If the baby does not show symptoms such as crying, unconsciousness or vomiting, the impact is generally not significant. Pay attention to close monitoring within 24 hours after the fall, and seek medical attention promptly if any abnormalities occur.
