What should I check if I often catch a cold?

Many mothers find that their children often catch colds, not just when the seasons change, but they often catch a cold and have a fever as soon as they catch a cold. In this case, it may be caused by the child's low resistance. But it may also be caused by a lack of nutrients in the body. So, for children who often catch colds, what items do they need to check at the hospital?

1. Check external causes: poor indoor ventilation, relatively insufficient indoor oxygen, indoor overheating, dryness and other conditions can easily cause the defense function of children's respiratory mucosa to decline, and viruses or bacteria will take advantage of the situation to invade. In other words, when children's body resistance is reduced due to external environmental factors, they are often prone to catching a cold. In addition, when the temperature difference between day and night is relatively large or when the temperature is too low, if children wear too few clothes and lack outdoor exercise, their body's defense ability will be weakened, and they will easily catch a cold once there is any "disturbance". In addition, cold heads and feet of children are also the main causes of colds.

2. Check for calcium deficiency: When children are not fed properly, take in too much calories, do not have proper supplementary food, do not have enough outdoor activities, or do not have enough light indoors, they may also suffer from calcium deficiency and even rickets. Rickets is often a common disease in children.

An accomplice of childhood pneumonia. According to statistics, 38% of children with pneumonia also have rickets. Children who are prone to catching colds or whose pneumonia cannot be cured after repeated treatments are often caused by rickets. Children who are calcium deficient should try to consume more calcium-rich foods, such as soy products, fish, shrimp, kelp, bone soup, etc. If necessary, they can take calcium tablets and cod liver oil. In addition, parents should take their children outdoors and bask in the sun frequently, which is especially important for children living in cities.

3. Check whether they are zinc deficient: Zinc deficiency in children often causes anorexia. Long-term anorexia will cause insufficient nutritional intake, leading to malnutrition, anemia, and decreased immune function, making them very prone to colds. To this end, breastfeeding should be encouraged, good eating habits should be developed, and more zinc-rich foods should be consumed, such as meat, clams, kelp, walnuts, soy products, peanuts, apples, etc. If necessary, 1% zinc sulfate syrup can be used for oral treatment.

4. Check whether they are deficient in vitamins: Children often suffer from vitamin deficiencies due to picky eating, anorexia or improper feeding, especially vitamin C and vitamin E deficiencies, which make them prone to colds. Vitamin C has antiviral effects. When it is insufficient, the body's antiviral ability will be weakened. When vitamin E is insufficient, the phagocytic, bactericidal and chemotactic functions of neutrophils in children's bodies will often decline, which also makes it easy to catch a cold. Children who are deficient in vitamins can supplement their vitamins by eating more fresh vegetables, fruits and whole grains in their daily lives.
