What causes red and swollen gums and fever in babies?

Every baby’s growth process is not smooth sailing and they will always experience some diseases. When encountering this situation, mothers must remember not to panic, but to be patient and take good care of the baby. Today we are going to look at a common disease in babies. The baby’s gums are red and swollen and the baby has a fever. Once the baby has this condition, it will affect the baby’s diet. So what causes this condition?

Gingival redness and swelling generally refers to the redness, swelling and bulging of the soft tissue of the gums around the teeth. It is more common in infectious diseases of gingival tissue caused by dental plaque biofilm, and can also be seen in cases of local foreign body stimulation.

Sometimes a baby's cold can cause a fever, which then causes swollen and painful gums. At this time, the mother should take care of the baby patiently, and pay attention to distracting the baby when the baby cries or tries to scratch with his hands. The mother should also not scratch the gums with his hands or chopsticks. If the baby scratches or bites his gums, you can apply a small amount of gentian violet solution. Generally, no medication is needed. Usually, you can dissolve boric acid powder in cold boiled water, and use cotton to soak in boric acid water to help your baby reduce inflammation and relieve pain. Especially if you apply it before feeding, it has a certain analgesic effect. If there is an ulcer, apply pearl powder or something similar to this on the affected area with a cotton swab to form a protective film which has an astringent effect.

But sometimes the baby's red and swollen gums are caused by inflammation of the gums, which then causes a fever. At this time, you should pay attention to reducing the baby's fever. If the baby's temperature is below 38.5, you only need physical cooling. Use alcohol to continuously wipe the palms and soles of the baby's feet, and use a fever-reducing patch; if it is above 38.5, you need to take oral quick antipyretic drugs, and go to the hospital to ask a doctor if necessary.

The growth of a child requires the mother's careful care at all times. Once the baby is found to be crying abnormally, the mother should find out the cause in time and take the child to a regular hospital for treatment. Do not treat it with a negative attitude to avoid irreparable consequences for the child and family.
