When the absorption is mild, the X-ray film can show that the alveolar ridge in the anterior teeth area becomes flat from pointed, and the top of the alveolar ridge in the posterior teeth area is concave; then, as the disease progresses, the horizontal absorption of the alveolar bone worsens, and the degree of absorption is closely related to the depth of the periodontal pocket and the looseness of the teeth.
