Why does an eight-year-old child urinate frequently?

If an eight-year-old child has frequent urination, parents should take the child to the hospital for examination in time. There are many reasons for children's frequent urination, which may be mental factors or drinking too much water. However, we should be alert to some medical reasons, such as cystitis and urethritis. If it is a little boy, observe whether the child has phimosis. If the glans is inflamed, it is also easy to cause frequent urination.

Why does an eight-year-old child urinate frequently?

1. Inflammatory stimulation

Once the amount of urine stored in the bladder exceeds a certain capacity, a healthy bladder will stimulate the sensory nerves, causing the brain to produce the urge to urinate, allowing urination to occur under conscious control. If local inflammation occurs due to infection of the vulva or bladder, the nerve sensitivity will be higher than normal, the urination center will continue to be excited, and frequent urination will occur. The frequency of urination increases, but the amount of urine does not increase. There will also be other uncomfortable symptoms, such as urinary pain and difficulty urinating.

2. Mental factors

Frequent urination caused by mental factors is a type of simple frequent urination. Children who are easily excited or overly sensitive usually suffer from frequent urination due to this reason. When these children are under great mental stimulation, such as being scolded or being too excited before going to bed, they will experience symptoms of frequent urination, urgency but small urine volume. In this regard, blaming or scolding the child will aggravate the symptoms; children usually do not wet the bed after falling asleep. This symptom is a short-term phenomenon, and the cause is usually psychological factors. Once this factor no longer affects the child, frequent urination will naturally heal.

3. Increased urine volume

The child's bladder capacity has not changed, but he or she produces more urine in a short period of time. In order to reduce the pressure on the bladder, children can only increase the number of urination, which leads to frequent urination. Frequent urination is physiological and may be caused by drinking too much fluid or consuming too much protein. Various beverages sold on the market inevitably contain a certain amount of sugar, which is easily absorbed by the blood. If children drink too much of these beverages, the blood sugar concentration in their bodies will become high. If parents are not aware of this and allow their children to drink too many beverages, a large amount of sugar will accumulate in their bodies. When this sugar is excreted, a large amount of water will be taken away, which is called hyperosmotic diuresis, thus causing frequent urination. Frequent urination caused by diabetes and diabetes insipidus is pathological frequent urination. It may also be caused by the use of medications such as diuretics to treat edema.

4. Reduced bladder capacity

It includes two situations: reduction of own capacity and reduction of effective capacity. The former refers to chronic bladder inflammation, foreign matter in the bladder, or a decrease in bladder capacity. The latter often occurs in children with congenital urinary tract malformations and lower urinary tract obstruction. Most of the urine stored in the bladder cannot be discharged. In order to relieve the pressure on the bladder, the frequency of urination will naturally increase, but the amount of urine each time is very small.
