We all know that the trachea of a newborn is not fully developed when it is just born, and the immunity of the body is not particularly high. Because they have just been born, they will try hard to adapt to the external environment. They will complete their own bodies as they grow. Neonatal laryngeal phonation is a common clinical disease of neonates. So what are the clinical manifestations of neonatal laryngeal phonation? 1. After the baby is born, there will be a throat sound when inhaling; 2. When inhaling, the suprasternal fossa, the supraclavicular fossa on both sides and the lower intercostal space are sunken; 3. The sound of the baby's throat will become more severe when the baby is crying or moving; 4. A very small number of babies may experience respiratory distress, feeding difficulties, etc. What to do if your newborn has stridor Most cases of laryngeal stridor in newborns do not require special treatment. Usually when the baby grows to 2 to 3 years old, the laryngeal cartilage will gradually develop and the laryngeal space will widen accordingly. Usually there will be improvement around 6 months. For most babies, this sound will disappear around 2 years old, and the symptoms can usually be relieved on their own. Therefore, for babies suffering from neonatal laryngeal stridor, they should pay attention to preventing colds, try to prevent respiratory infections, and increase nutrition. During this period, your baby should also increase outdoor activities and get more sun exposure. Start supplementing with vitamin D (i.e. cod liver oil) 400 units/day 2 weeks after birth until the age of 2 to promote calcium absorption and synthesis. However, if the baby is in a state of malnutrition for a long time, accompanied by feeding difficulties, or repeated respiratory tract infections, respiratory distress, shortness of breath, choking and reflux, etc., you need to go to the hospital for treatment in time. Occasionally, babies with severe laryngeal obstruction may need timely tracheotomy to relieve the symptoms. Newborn baby's throat abnormal sound does not stop laryngeal stridor In addition to laryngeal stridor, the baby's throat may also make abnormal sounds similar to stridor when he is sick. Parents should pay attention to whether there are other symptoms. 1. Bronchiolitis Wheezing symptoms are similar to those of asthma. It is mainly caused by respiratory syncytial virus and parainfluenza virus, and is more common in infants under 6 months old. 2. Asthmatic bronchitis It is more common in infants and young children aged 1 to 4 years old; accompanied by fever, and the wheezing disappears after the inflammation improves; there is no obvious breathing difficulty, the onset is relatively slow, and the course of the disease can last for 1 week. 3. Inhalation of foreign matter It is most common in babies under 3 years old, who may suddenly experience choking, wheezing, cyanosis, or even suffocation during feeding. If the foreign object can move in the trachea, when you cough hard, the air flow rushing out of the trachea and hitting the foreign object will make a "papa" sound. 4. Circumferential vascular compression There are abnormal blood vessels around the trachea and esophagus, which surround the trachea and cause compression. Breathing difficulties and wheezing occur in newborns, most noticeable when feeding in the prone position. 5. Retropharyngeal abscess It is more common in babies under 2 years old. When the abscess is located low, it compresses the trachea and causes coughing and phlegm in the throat, similar to laryngeal wheezing. 6. Diphtheria Diphtheria rarely occurs because of vaccination. The disease is mild, with cough, wheezing, dyspnea and low fever, and the cough is more severe than the wheezing. |
