What to do if your child has poor expressive ability

We all know that a person's language expression ability is very important to a person, especially in a company. During an interview, if the expression ability is particularly outstanding, it is easy to get the favor of the interviewer. Moreover, the expression ability is not innate, but needs to be cultivated slowly after birth. We need to pay attention to this issue when our children are young. So what should we do if our children have poor expression ability?

Children with poor language expression skills may not dare to ask questions due to their weak expression skills, and tend to accept one-sided information, resulting in poor learning results. In terms of psychological development, they are prone to lack of confidence due to insufficient expression skills, and dare not express their opinions and ideas, and are easily emotionally frustrated. In terms of interpersonal interaction, they may not be good at making friends, and it is not easy for them to stand out in the group, and they usually play the role of followers. Therefore, parents must not underestimate the importance of children’s language expression skills.

Childhood is a critical period for language development. Parents should seize this opportunity to cultivate their children's language expression ability. Some parents often say to their children: "Children should stop interrupting when adults are talking!" This deprives children of the opportunity to express themselves. Speech occurs in a certain context, and the contextual characteristics determine the child's speech characteristics and speaking style. Therefore, parents should consciously and deliberately regulate their children's speech by controlling the context.

To train children's expressive ability, parents should handle the contradiction between children's emotional expression and language expression; pay attention to using inspiring conversations to fully develop children's imagination and expression; let children participate in adult life, and when necessary, let children become the center of the situation, encourage children to communicate with others orally, and let children often talk about their own ideas, experiences or stories; and so on. This will help children develop fluent language.
