Scarlet fever commonly presents with symptoms of fever and sore throat, which are often easily mistaken for other diseases. Penicillin is generally used clinically, but other drugs can also be used for patients who are allergic to penicillin. It is mainly necessary to judge based on inspection and not blindly. No matter what medicine you take, it will take two weeks to see the effect. After two weeks, if it has not healed, you need to change the medication. If a baby has scarlet fever, antibiotic treatment must be used as soon as possible. Early injection of sufficient penicillin can shorten the course of the disease and speed up recovery. At present, due to the widespread use of penicillin, the number of babies with mild symptoms after becoming ill has increased significantly. Generally, the rash will subside and the body temperature will gradually drop 1 to 2 days after the injection of penicillin.Early treatment: Penicillin is the first choice In the early stages of scarlet fever, penicillin is the first choice for pathogen treatment. Children should receive 20,000-40,000 U/kg body weight, divided into 2-4 doses, by intramuscular injection or intravenous drip. After treatment with penicillin, 80% of children will have subsided fever within 24 hours. It takes an average of 1.1 days for throat swab culture to turn negative, and pharyngitis and rash to disappear in 4 days. Children with common type can use it for 5 consecutive days. Follow the doctor's instructions and continue taking the medication for 1 week until the symptoms completely disappear and the redness and swelling of the throat subsides before stopping the medication. This can shorten the course of the disease and reduce complications
For those who are allergic to penicillin, erythromycin can be used at a dose of 20-40 mg/(kg·d), taken orally in 3 or 4 divided doses. Sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim (complex sulfamethoxazole) can also be used. Chloramphenicol, lincomycin or cephalosporin can also be used. The medication should be determined by the doctor. Symptomatic treatment for complications If the child develops septic shock, blood volume should be actively replenished, acidosis should be corrected, and vasoactive drugs should be given. Children with concurrent rheumatic diseases can be given anti-rheumatic treatment. The aspirin dosage for children is 0.1/(kg·d), taken orally in 3 or 4 doses. After the symptoms are controlled, the dosage can be halved. Active anti-rheumatic treatment can prevent the occurrence of heart valve disease. Children who develop nephritis can be treated according to the internal medicine methods for treating nephritis.
