How to use yellow fruit to relieve jaundice

Yellow fruit, also known as gardenia, is a relatively traditional Chinese medicine. This drug is effective in treating neonatal jaundice, but it needs to be used under the guidance of a doctor. In addition, there are two types of neonatal jaundice, one is physiological jaundice and the other is pathological jaundice. If it is the former, there is no need to worry too much, just take good care of it. But if it is the latter, parents need to take their children to the hospital for treatment.

1. Can yellow fruits relieve jaundice?

Gardenia, also known as yellow gardenia, mountain gardenia, and white toad, is the fruit of the gardenia plant of the Rubiaceae family. The fruit of Gardenia is a traditional Chinese medicine and is included in the first batch of medicinal and edible resources promulgated by the Ministry of Health. It has the effects of protecting the liver, promoting bile secretion, lowering blood pressure, calming, stopping bleeding, and reducing swelling. In traditional Chinese medicine, it is often used to treat jaundice hepatitis, sprains and contusions.

, hypertension, diabetes and other diseases. Contains crocin base and can be used as a yellow dye.

2. Causes of neonatal jaundice

Most newborns will have yellow skin within a week after birth, which is mainly caused by abnormal bilirubin metabolism in the newborn. If the jaundice is mild and is physiological jaundice, parents do not need to be overly nervous. Physiological jaundice usually begins to appear 2 to 3 days after the birth of a newborn. It is the yellowest 4 to 6 days after birth and gradually subsides after 7 to 10 days.

The incidence of neonatal jaundice is high, but most of it is a normal physiological phenomenon. Only a few cases are caused by disease. When the condition is serious, it will cause bilirubin encephalopathy. If not treated in time, it may be life-threatening or cause sequelae such as central nervous system damage, which will last for life.

3. Scientific methods to help babies get rid of jaundice

New mothers should closely observe changes in their baby's skin. If physiological jaundice is confirmed, the following scientific methods can be used:

1. Breastfeeding can reduce jaundice

Start breastfeeding as early as possible. Because the earlier the baby is fed, the earlier the meconium will be excreted. Meconium contains a lot of bilirubin. If the meconium is excreted delayed or not completely, the bilirubin will be reabsorbed into the blood through the baby's special enterohepatic circulation, aggravating jaundice. Starting breastfeeding as early as possible can also allow the baby to get enough calories. In addition, the baby should be given enough water to ensure that the baby urinates 6 to 8 times a day. Low water intake and too little urination are not conducive to the excretion of bilirubin.

2. Sunbathing to reduce jaundice

Natural light contains all kinds of wavelengths, some of which can convert bilirubin into other hydrolyzed substances that facilitate excretion, thereby reducing the amount of bilirubin in the body. Therefore, exposure to sunlight can more or less reduce the degree of jaundice. It is best to let the baby's skin be exposed to the sun, especially the back of the head, back and buttocks. It is best to do so before 11 am, generally for about 10 to 20 minutes. Cover your baby's eyes with an opaque black cloth to protect them, keep them warm, and avoid sunburning their skin.

3. "Light therapy" to reduce jaundice

Depending on the severity of your baby's jaundice, light therapy may be needed in the hospital to reduce the jaundice, which is what we usually call "blue light therapy" and needs to be done in the hospital. Put an eye mask on your baby to protect his eyes, wrap him with a diaper to protect his genitals, and leave the rest of his body exposed in the phototherapy device. The light waves are absorbed by the skin and act on the bilirubin in the blood, promoting the excretion of bilirubin to achieve the purpose of reducing jaundice. Blue light irradiation is a simple and effective method to reduce serum bilirubin in newborns. It has been used for decades at home and abroad and is effective and safe.
