Early symptoms of rabies in children

Some children are very brave since childhood and like to play with puppies. As the saying goes, a newborn calf is not afraid of a tiger. Children never worry about whether the things they touch will hurt them. Sometimes children will inadvertently anger puppies, and the puppies will bite the children. Therefore, the rabies virus may be infected into the child's body through the wound. A dog with rabies will die after biting a person. Let's take a look at the early symptoms of rabies in children and take timely prevention measures!

Rabies is an acute zoonotic infectious disease of the central nervous system caused by the rabies virus. The prominent clinical manifestation is fear of drinking water. The main clinical manifestations are unique mania, fear and anxiety, fear of wind and water, drooling and pharyngeal muscle spasms, eventually leading to paralysis and life-threatening. It is recommended to ask whether there is a history of being bitten by a dog. Blood and urine routine tests, total white blood cell count in cerebrospinal fluid, neutralization test, chest X-ray and other examinations can be done.

The incubation period varies in length, but most are less than 3 months. The length of the incubation period is related to factors such as age (shorter in children), wound site (bites on the head and face occur earlier), wound depth (deep wounds have a shorter incubation period), the number and virulence of the invading virus, etc. Other factors such as incomplete debridement, trauma, cold, excessive fatigue, etc. may cause the disease to occur prematurely. Before the excited state appears, most patients have low fever, loss of appetite, nausea, headache, fatigue, general discomfort, etc., which are similar to a "cold"; then fear and anxiety appear, and they are more sensitive to sound, light, wind, pain, etc., and have a tightness in the throat. The most diagnostically significant early symptom is abnormal sensation in and around the wound, including numbness, itching, pain, and a crawling sensation. This is caused by the stimulation of neurons by the virus during reproduction and lasts for 2 to 4 days.
