Taboos for babies to eat lactoferrin

Many mothers do not have enough breast milk during breastfeeding, which greatly affects the baby's nutritional intake and also affects the baby's development and growth. Therefore, mothers will use lactoferrin to supplement insufficient breast milk. Taking lactoferrin can promote the baby's absorption of iron, enhance the baby's immunity and resistance. It is a good choice especially for babies with physical abnormalities. But what are the shortcomings of taking lactoferrin for babies?

Babies such as non-breastfed babies, babies who are insufficiently breastfed, babies born by caesarean section, babies in the weaning period, premature babies, babies with poor physical constitution and prone to illness, and babies with delayed growth and development can all take lactoferrin.

Pregnant women’s immune resistance is suppressed due to the secretion of sex hormones. In addition, they need to supply a large amount of nutrition to the fetus or secrete milk, so they are more likely to suffer from nutritional deficiencies and decreased immune resistance. Protein powder can help pregnant women promote the absorption of important elements such as iron, improve the mother's ability to resist germs, and protect the mother's health, thereby ensuring that the fetus and baby can get adequate nutrition and grow healthily.

It is recommended to start with 1/4 bag of protein powder for 2-3 days to give the baby an adaptation period. For babies aged 0-6 months, 1/2 bag a day is enough, and for babies aged 6 months to 1 year old, one bag a day is enough. Remember to take it with warm water.

What is Lactoferrin

Lactoferrin (LF) is an important non-heme iron-binding glycoprotein in breast milk and a monomeric glycoprotein with bactericidal activity in neutrophil granules. Lactoferrin is found in breast milk, especially in colostrum. The concentration of lactoferrin in breast milk is about 1.0-3.2 mg/ml, which is 10 times that in cow's milk (the content in cow's milk is 0.02-0.35 mg/ml), and accounts for 20% of the total protein in ordinary breast milk. During lactation, the lactoferrin content varies with the time of lactation. For example, the lactoferrin content in colostrum can reach 6-14 mg/ml, and drops to 1 mg/ml in mature milk.

Many domestic and international experiments have proved that lactoferrin has anti-microbial, immunomodulatory, anti-infection and tumor growth inhibition functions. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has long allowed lactoferrin to be used as a food additive in sports and functional foods. Lactoferrin On March 30, 2012, China's "National Food Safety Standard - Food Nutrition Fortifier Usage Standard" included lactoferrin in GB14880-2012 and recognized it as a food nutrition fortifier.

Lactoferrin is valued because it can inhibit bacterial growth by taking away the iron needed for bacterial growth, or destroy bacterial cell membranes and kill bacteria. It can also enhance immunity and inhibit infections caused by viruses, such as rotavirus and enterobacterium 71 in enterovirus. It is one of the hallmark elements of formula infant milk powder and is recognized worldwide.
