The child suddenly limps

Parents must pay attention to setting a good example for their children when they are learning to walk. They should try to find someone who walks normally to teach their children. Because many children have strong learning abilities, if they see some strange behaviors in people around them, they will subconsciously imitate them and may end up limping. So what should you do if your child suddenly limps?

Children who walk with a limp are clinically called lameness. It should be noted that many parents think that the reason for their children's limp is a problem with their feet. In fact, most of the time it is not a problem with the feet, but a problem with the hip joint.

There are many types of diseases that cause children to limp. Some are very mild and do not require special treatment. They can recover on their own after rest; but some require medication or corrective braces for treatment, and there are even serious diseases that require surgery.

The specific assessment requires a physical examination and imaging examination by a professional pediatric orthopedic surgeon, but the following questions can help parents pre-evaluate whether the condition is serious:

1. Does the child have a history of trauma? Did the child develop limp immediately after the trauma?

2. Does the child have a fever? Does the fever occur at the same time as the lameness?

3. Are there any swelling in the joints of the child's lower limbs or local skin fever?

4. Has the child been limping for more than a week?

5. Does the child's limp not improve after rest, or does it get worse?

If you answer "yes" to any of the above five questions, don't hesitate and bring your child to the hospital for professional treatment!
