What should I do if my child has smegma?

Children's reproductive health is very important, because the reproductive system of children is constantly developing and will not stop until adulthood. Therefore, any symptoms in the middle will have a great impact on the reproductive system. Children's genital hygiene is difficult to deal with. Among them, boys' genital hygiene problems are the most serious. Let's take a look at what to do if children have smegma?

1. Correctly understand smegma:

As the name suggests, smegma is dirt hidden under the foreskin. During infancy, the baby's foreskin is longer, and the sebum secreted accumulates under the foreskin. Some of it mixes with urine for a long time and forms lumps. The smell is quite pungent and unpleasant. However, whether the smegma needs to be cleaned depends on the age of the child.

2. Before the age of three or four:

Before children are three or four years old, boys have foreskin that is too long and cannot be turned back. If it is turned back forcibly, it will be very painful for the child. In addition, at this age, generally not too much smegma will be formed, and the self-protection system is relatively good, so there is no need to clean it and there will generally be no problem.

3. Observe more and don’t be random:

During the infant and toddler period, the baby's foreskin will be too long and there will be a small amount of smegma, but don't make a fuss about it. Generally, it does not need to be cleaned, so it is still mainly based on observation. Usually, keep the baby's foreskin dry, wash the lower body more often, and pay more attention to whether the baby has redness, swelling or inflammation. Do not easily turn over the baby's foreskin for cleaning.

4. Wash frequently with warm water:

When the foreskin can be turned up, you can wash the smegma frequently with warm water. Be careful not to use soap or shower gel as they will irritate the baby's delicate skin. Warm water is enough. You can let the baby wash it frequently every day.

5. Move gently:

When cleaning, when pulling up the foreskin, you must be gentle, or let the child try to pull it up by himself. Some children have phimosis and may not be able to pull it up. If you pull it up forcefully, the skin will be stretched. After cleaning, you must gently put the pulled up foreskin back.

6. Step by step:

When cleaning the baby's smegma, you must proceed step by step and be gentle. Slowly turn over the foreskin and wipe it gently. When turning over the foreskin, do not take it off all at once to expose the entire penis head, as this will be very painful for the baby. Turn it over less. Stop immediately if the baby feels pain. Turn it over a few more times and it will be fine.
