What should I do if my child chokes on water while swimming?

Today's parents hope to cultivate a variety of interests in their children, so that their children's lives will become very fulfilling, and they can acquire more skills and better establish themselves in the future society. For example, some parents like to let their children learn to swim, mainly to enhance their children's immunity and exercise their bodies, and it is also a survival skill. So, what should you do if your child chokes on water while swimming?

Let your baby spit out the water

If your baby chokes on water while swimming, if you find that the baby is still conscious, you must immediately let the baby lie on his/her stomach, press your hands on the baby's stomach and raise them to the waist until the baby spit out the water.

Chest compressions

First, gently press the baby's chest 30 times with your hands, then press down the forehead of the choking baby, and then lift the chin back with a little force. This can help the baby open the airway so that air can enter the lungs smoothly and avoid brain hypoxia.

Artificial respiration

It is necessary to perform mouth-to-mouth artificial respiration twice in succession, blowing for 1 second each time, then perform a second chest compression on the baby who is choking on water, and continue the previous step in a cycle until the ambulance arrives.

First aid for babies choking on water while swimming

If you choke on water, stand upside down immediately

Once a baby chokes on water, first aid should be given immediately in four steps: first, turn the child upside down, then pat the back, lay the child flat after the water comes out, and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Parents should not reverse the operating procedures due to panic, otherwise it will make later rescue difficult.

What temperature should the water be kept for infants and young children to swim? What should parents do if an accident occurs? The water temperature for infants to swim should be controlled within 39℃, and the swimming time should not be too long. Newborn babies only need to swim for 7 minutes for the first time, and then it can be extended to 15 to 20 minutes depending on the situation. The longest time should not exceed 30 minutes.

Adults should always observe the child's expression to see if the child is tired or uncomfortable. If any situation is found, the child should be taken out in time. If the child looks distressed or has purple lips, first aid measures should be taken.
