First aid measures for children with fever in the middle of the night

Children have weaker immunity, and a minor illness may develop into a serious disease if not treated promptly. Because children's brains are not fully developed, once they have a fever, it must be reduced as quickly as possible, otherwise the condition may worsen. In mild cases, the high fever will not subside, and in severe cases, it may develop into encephalitis and even be life-threatening. But sometimes a child has a fever in the middle of the night and there is no adequate medical care around. So what can parents do at this time?

Baby having fever is a very common problem. Which baby has never had a fever during his/her growth? When the baby has a fever, many new parents will naturally feel distressed and anxious. But in my opinion, there is no need for parents to treat it as a disaster. They should not panic, become confused and lose their mind as soon as the baby has a fever.

In fact, fever is a very natural defense reaction of the human body, which is the body's fight against pathogens. It doesn’t mean that it’s bad if the baby has a fever. Through fever, the baby can also improve his resistance to germs. Of course, fever will cause the evaporation of water in the baby's body, which can easily lead to symptoms such as dehydration in the baby. Therefore, it is very necessary to pay close attention to changes in the baby's body temperature and take timely measures to reduce fever. So, how to reduce baby’s fever?

First of all, we should remain calm. When the baby has a fever, parents are in a panic and anxious, which is of no use. It is better to deal with it calmly and in an orderly manner. Therefore, parents should still master some basic knowledge about how to deal with their baby's fever, so that they can be more targeted when the baby has a fever and avoid being nervous and panic.

The baby has a fever, and timely reduction of fever is the key. Always have some ice packs, alcohol, cooling patches, antipyretic drugs, etc. suitable for children at home. When the baby's body temperature is below 39 degrees, physical cooling methods can be used to reduce the baby's fever.

First, add or remove clothes for your baby appropriately. If the baby's limbs are cold and he shivers violently (chills), he needs to be warmed up, and you need to add clothes to the baby; if the baby's limbs and hands and feet are warm and he sweats all over his body, he needs to dissipate heat, and you should dress the baby in fewer clothes or even nothing.

Secondly, give your baby plenty of water to ensure that his body has sufficient water, which is also helpful in lowering his body temperature. At the same time, it is necessary to apply physical cooling methods to the baby. You can use cold compresses, alcohol wipes, warm baths, ice packs, cool towels, etc. to physically cool your baby down. Here are three of the more effective methods:

1. Cold compress method: Apply a cold towel to the baby's forehead. After the towel becomes hot, change it and continue to use it. You can also use cooling patches, cold water bags or ice packs instead of cold towels.

2. Wipe with warm alcohol: Dilute 70° medical alcohol with water in a 1:1 ratio and wipe the baby's palms, soles, armpits, inner sides of upper arms, chest, back and thighs. After wiping, closely observe your baby for any adverse reactions. Remember: If your baby's skin is allergic to alcohol, never use this method.

3. Take a warm bath: Use warm water at about 37 degrees to bathe your baby. This will dilate the blood vessels in the baby's skin and dissipate the heat in the body. The water vapor on the body surface can also absorb part of the body's heat. The bathing time should not be too long. It is appropriate to soak once every 4 to 6 hours, and each time for 10 to 15 minutes.
