What to do if your child coughs after drinking cold drinks

It is normal for children to be greedy, especially in summer when the weather is hot and various cold drinks are more delicious, so many children often eat cold drinks. However, cold drinks are very cold after all. If children eat too much, it will easily cause them to have coughing symptoms, which makes parents very worried. So, what should we do if our children cough after drinking cold drinks? Let’s take a look below.

Cold drinks are too cold and can cause irritating coughs. You can try the following methods to relieve coughs:

1. Steam cough relief

For babies who keep coughing, the symptoms will be relieved in an environment with room temperature around 20℃ and humidity around 60-65%. If your baby has a severe cough, let him/her inhale steam; or hold your baby in a steam-filled bathroom for 5 minutes. The humid air will help clear mucus from your baby's lungs and calm your cough. You can also apply a hot towel to your baby's nose to achieve the same effect.

2. Apply hot salt bag to the back to relieve cough

Put about 150 grams of salt in an iron pan and stir-fry until it turns slightly yellow. Wrap it in cloth, apply it to your back through clothes, and iron your back repeatedly until the temperature of the salt becomes cold. You can also use a hot water bottle to apply it to your back. Salt can clear away heat, and hot salt can eliminate phlegm. It can cure both hot coughs and cold coughs.

3. Umbilical application therapy

Use the Chinese medicine Schisandra chinensis and White Mustard Seed, take equal parts of the two medicines, grind them into powder, mix them into a paste with vinegar or 75% alcohol, and apply it to the navel. It can help to reduce phlegm in children who have cough and phlegm that is difficult to resolve.

4. Medicinal bath therapy

Use 15g each of ephedra, cinnamon twig, scallion root and aster, decoct in water, and give the child a herbal bath or foot soak every day. It has the effects of dispelling cold and relieving exterior symptoms, unblocking meridians and clearing nasal passages. Long-term use can enhance children's resistance. For children with cold cough and allergic rhinitis, medicated bath is a very effective treatment method, but it requires parents to persist in the long term, especially for allergic rhinitis, which requires even more perseverance.

5. Foot massage

First, rub the soles of your baby's feet up and down, 30 times for each foot. Then massage each toe up and down 20-40 times. Focus on massaging the area on both sides of the base of the big toe on the sole of the foot. As long as the tonsils are inflamed, this area will be very painful. Massage each foot for 5 minutes. After massage, the baby's sore throat symptoms will be significantly alleviated.

Note that some parents have reported that this method is not very useful. That's because you haven't finished the work. After the massage, you should give your baby plenty of warm water or lightly salted water. If you insist on massaging your baby twice a day and combining it with diet therapy, your baby's illness will heal quickly.

6. Adjust the air humidity

Some coughs are made worse by dry air, while others are caused by air that is too humid.
