What are the consequences if a child falls and hits his head on the ground?

Children are most likely to fall, especially young children, who will fall if they are not properly cared for. Ordinary falls are not very serious, but falling on the back of the head can easily cause problems. Not to mention children with poor physical resistance, even for adults, the harm caused by trauma to the back of the head is very serious. If a child falls and hits the back of the head, parents should take timely action to avoid serious consequences. So, what are the consequences if a child falls and hits his head on the ground?

Generally speaking, the most feared consequence of head trauma is intracranial hemorrhage, which can occur at varying degrees. Mild cases can cause symptoms such as headache, vomiting, and nausea; severe cases can cause massive bleeding and even lead to death.

So, what should you do if your child falls on his head?

First of all, falling off the bed is inevitable. Once it happens, parents must not panic and should not pick up the child too forcefully to avoid causing other unnecessary injuries. If the baby starts crying immediately after falling, it is usually not a serious situation and you can pick the baby up gently. If the baby is face down, it is usually less dangerous and you can just deal with the external injuries if there are any. Another point is that for children under one year old, the fontanelle has not yet completely closed, so there will be a cushion inside the skull after a fall, and the probability of causing cerebral hemorrhage is very low. The only thing to worry about is older children falling on their heads.

Second, when a child falls on his head, he should go to the hospital immediately in the following situations:

1. Bleeding trauma to the head;

2. The child did not cry after the fall, but was not fully conscious, semi-comatose and drowsy;

3. Within two days after the fall, the child developed recurrent vomiting, excessive sleepiness, poor spirits, or severe crying;

4. Within two days after the fall, bleeding or discharge from the nose or ears and uneven pupils occurred.

Generally, if you fall and hit your head and cause severe concussion or intracranial hemorrhage, the symptoms will appear quickly, at the latest within 24 hours, so you should go to the hospital as soon as possible if you have symptoms.

What we need to remind everyone here is that you should try to take your children to a large hospital. Large hospitals have more experts and have seen more cases. If an emergency occurs, the rescue facilities will be relatively advanced, and the possibility of tragedy must be minimized.

Third, if a child falls and hits his head and there is no bleeding but a small swelling, he should be treated with cold compress immediately. If the swelling is large or red, you can apply some sesame oil as an emergency measure, or apply moistened potato slices on it, which can help relieve pain and remove blood stasis. If accompanied by symptoms such as drowsiness or vomiting, seek medical attention immediately.

Fourth, even if you fall on your head, don’t always suspect that you have a concussion. A concussion is characterized by a period of loss of consciousness and awareness. If the baby remains conscious, there will be no problem. If a child vomits, it may be caused by fright or a temporary brain concussion. Generally, the child will recover after vomiting two or three times, which is different from a concussion. Even if it is a concussion, if it is mild, there will be no sequelae.

Fifth, after a child falls on his head, he should rest more and move less. If you remain in good spirits and have a normal appetite within two days, you can rest assured.

Sixth, parents should always pay attention to their children's safety. This goes without saying at home. But if a child falls and drops his head in kindergarten or school, parents must take it seriously. Don't wait until the consequences become serious and then regret not paying attention to the child.

There is no need for me to say much about what kind of harm damage to the back of the brain can cause to people's bodies. All parents should know the consequences. Therefore, the health of the child’s back of the brain is really very important. Once danger occurs, only a rational mother can save everything!
