Can babies wear gold?

Children nowadays are very pampered. Although the country has allowed second-child policy, there are still many families who choose to have only one child. When you spoil your children at home, you want to give them the best things. Therefore, we can see that it is very common for many babies to wear gold and silver. However, some parents may also worry about their children wearing gold-related items. So, can babies wear gold? Let’s take a look below.

4 major hazards of babies wearing gold and silver

Giving gold and silver jewelry to babies with delicate skin may cause the following problems:

1. Cause skin allergies

Pure gold and silver jewelry will not cause any adverse effects on the human body, but impure ornaments contain metals such as nickel or chromium, which may irritate the skin, especially for babies with allergies. Contact with these things will increase the risk of allergic dermatitis.

2. Easy to damage the skin

The baby's skin is very delicate. Wearing ornaments with a harder texture will irritate and rub the local skin. Some low-end jewelry has rough shapes and workmanship. Some interfaces do not correspond, and some blanks are not polished smoothly, which can easily irritate or scratch the skin and cause skin inflammation. If bacteria invade and multiply, it may also cause secondary infection and cause systemic diseases.

3. Can cause radiation sickness

Some radioactive elements such as polonium, cobalt, and radium often coexist with gold mines. Therefore, it is inevitable that there will be a small amount of radioactive elements remaining in gold jewelry. If the baby wears jewelry containing radioactive elements for a long time, it can cause radiation jewelry disease and even cause malignant lesions in the baby's blood, bones, and reproductive system.

4. Accidents are likely to happen

Many jewelry materials contain heavy metals. If babies put them in their mouths, they may suffer from heavy metal poisoning. Some small ornaments can easily be swallowed by babies or get stuck in their throats, causing suffocation.
