Causes of Breast Lumps in Children

Causes of Breast Lumps in Children

When children are young, parents will pay special attention to their physical changes, fearing that some disease will occur in their children. Therefore, due to the lack of parenting experience, normal phenomena in children can easily be mistaken by parents as hidden dangers. Some children are found to have lumps in their breasts. This is a high incidence issue, which makes parents very nervous. So, what are the causes of breast lumps in children?

If your baby has a lump in his breast, which feels like a hard lump the size of a broad bean or hawthorn, and you squeeze it gently, water will flow out. This is normal, so don't worry. It is mainly the result of the influence of maternal estrogen during the fetal period. If your baby has a lump in the breast, never squeeze it. If you accidentally break the nipple, bacteria will be introduced, causing redness, swelling and inflammation of the breast, and in severe cases, it may cause sepsis. Squeezing of baby girls may cause mastitis, which will affect milk secretion in adulthood.

Physiological breast enlargement in infants generally does not require any treatment, so don't worry. In the late pregnancy, the mother's estrogen and progesterone can be delivered to the fetus through the placenta, causing the fetal breast to enlarge. 3 to 5 days after the baby is born, whether it is a girl or a boy, the breasts will gradually swell. Usually, the swelling is bilateral and symmetrical, ranging in size from a broad bean to a quail egg. It feels like a lump, which is called physiological breast enlargement. It is not a tumor, so there is no need to worry. But never squeeze or rub it with your hands, otherwise it will squeeze the breast tissue and cause mastitis, and in severe cases it will lead to sepsis and endanger the baby's life. Babies with serious conditions must be sent to the hospital for medical treatment in time.

Whether the baby has enlarged breasts or a hard core inside, this is just a normal phenomenon that occurs in some baby girls. Because the child is affected by the mother's hormones in the womb, it will cause hyperplasia of the mammary lobules, which is the feeling of a small hard lump moving. But after leaving the mother's body, this phenomenon will gradually disappear as hormone levels decrease. Due to the different hormone levels of mothers and the different sensitivities of children to hormones, this phenomenon will manifest itself to varying degrees in different children. In the past, people would use the "squeezing" method to deal with it, but children's skin is delicate, and squeezing will cause damage to the child's breast tissue, which will have a certain impact on future breast development.
