Why do newborns make throat sounds when feeding?

Newborns will unconsciously make some abnormal noises every time they feed. The most common one is the glottal sound during the feeding process. This needs to be taken seriously. This is not a normal phenomenon. It is likely due to a series of problems caused by calcium deficiency in the newborn's body, or bronchitis and other diseases. It is also likely that the newborn will make some snoring sounds when sleeping. Treatment measures should be taken according to the specific cause of the disease.

Congenital laryngomalacia is caused by calcium deficiency in the baby. The main reason is that the mother’s calcium intake is insufficient during pregnancy, which affects the fetus and causes calcium deficiency in the baby after birth. Because the baby's laryngeal cartilage softens, it collapses when inhaling, causing partial obstruction of the airway and snoring. Swallowing, especially when drinking liquid food (such as milk), the laryngeal cartilage softens and covers the larynx, causing obstructive breathing difficulties. The baby is forced to inhale and chokes on milk, which can lead to bronchopneumonia.

suggestion :

Timely detection and treatment of bronchopneumonia, not using nipples with too large holes to feed, and timely adjusting the baby's feeding speed are all simple ways to prevent choking. For seriously ill children, special methods such as nasogastric feeding can be used.

Because the baby is small, the glands secrete vigorously, especially the nasal secretions are more. If they are not cleaned in time, the nasal cavity will be blocked by nasal mucus. Therefore, when the baby is feeding, you will hear a wheezing sound, which usually disappears after the baby is 2 months old.

suggestion :

You can use a wet cotton swab to remove the nasal mucus if it is dry nasal crust. You can use tweezers to remove it, but be gentle. To avoid damaging the nasal cavity.

Neonatal respiratory infections often occur in the dry autumn and winter seasons because newborns have relatively low resistance and cannot adapt to the external environment all of a sudden. In addition, the air is dry, which can easily cause inflammation, leading to respiratory infections and even pneumonia.

Notice :

If your baby has a fever, give him/her more warm water and avoid "covering his/her sweat" to avoid inducing high temperature convulsions. The room should maintain appropriate humidity and temperature, and be ventilated frequently. Breastfeeding mothers should eat a light and easy-to-digest diet. Parents should pay attention to weather changes, add or remove clothes for the baby in time, and avoid going out in dusty weather.
