What's wrong with the white spots on the child's throat?

Children's health is a matter of great concern to many adults. When white spots appear in a child's throat, if the white spots are too small, they are often easily ignored. Therefore, you must pay attention to observe whether there are any abnormalities in the child's throat. White spots in the throat are likely caused by disease, and many diseases may cause such symptoms. So what exactly is going on when a child has white spots in his throat?

1. Infection

White spots in the throat are generally caused by increased secretions of mucosal tissue due to bacterial or fungal infection. In this case, you should get checked and receive targeted anti-infection treatment, considering that it is caused by an acute upper respiratory tract infection or a viral infection.

2. Oral thrush

White spots in the throat may be caused by thrush, which is characterized by the appearance of a milky white, slightly raised, mottled membrane on the oral mucosa with no surrounding inflammation, shaped like milk lumps. It is painless. After wiping off the plaque membrane, a red wound without bleeding can be seen underneath. The plaques vary in size and may appear on the tongue, cheeks, palate, or inner lip mucosa. If the damaged mucosa is not treated in time, it may continue to expand and spread to the pharynx, tonsils, gums, etc. In severe cases, it may spread to the esophagus and bronchi, causing candidal esophagitis or pulmonary candidiasis, with breathing and swallowing difficulties. A few may develop chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis, which affects lifelong immune function. It may even lead to other bacterial infections and cause sepsis.

3. Note

If it is thrush, it should be differentiated from milk retention. Although the symptoms of milk clots in the mouth are similar to those of thrush, they can be moved and removed by wiping with warm water or a cotton swab. The white scales of this disease are not easy to wipe off. If they are wiped off forcefully, the mucous membrane underneath will become flushed and rough.
