What should I do if my child has diarrhea due to indigestion?

Since children are in the developmental period, their body functions have not yet fully developed, especially their gastrointestinal digestion function is much worse than that of adults. Therefore, once they eat too much or eat food that is difficult to digest, they will have food accumulation, leading to symptoms such as diarrhea. If a child has indigestion, it can be treated by tonifying the spleen meridian, pinching and rubbing the four horizontal lines, following the inner eight trigrams, rubbing the Banmen, massaging the abdomen, pressing and rubbing the Zusanli point, pressing and rubbing the spleen and stomach points, and pinching the spine.

Step 1: Nourish the Spleen Meridian

Spleen meridian location: radial side of thumb from finger tip to finger base

Operation method: The operator uses the tip of the thumb to push along the radial side of the child's thumb from the fingertip to the base, and repeats the operation 500 times.

Step 2: Pinch and rub the four horizontal lines

Four horizontal lines: palm surface, index finger to little finger, the first interphalangeal joint horizontal lines of the four fingers

Operation method: The operator pinches and rubs the four horizontal lines of the child with the tip of the thumb. Pinch once, rub three times, and perform the operation 3 to 5 times.

Step 3: Follow the inner gossip

Position of the inner Bagua: Draw a circle with the center of the palm as the center and the radius about 2/3 of the distance from the center to the transverse line of the middle finger root as the radius. The Bagua point is on this circle. The midpoint of the horizontal line on the wrist is Kan, the midpoint on the middle finger is Li, the midpoint on the thumb side is Zhen, and the midpoint on the little finger side is Dui, for a total of eight directions.

Operation method: The operator uses the thumb to move from Gan to Kan and then to Dui. When moving to Li, gently pass it over. Operate 100 times.

Step 4: Knead the door

Banmen acupoint location: on the plane of the thenar eminence of the palm

Operation method: The operator rubs the patient's thenar with the thumb or index finger for 100 times.

Step 5: Abdominal massage

Abdominal massage location: the patient's abdomen

Operation method: The operator uses the palm of the finger to rub the skin surface of the child's abdomen in a circular direction. The skin should move while the flesh should not move. That is, only the skin moves while the fat and muscles under the skin should not move. The operation should last for 6 minutes.

The direction of abdominal massage should be determined according to the disease the baby suffers from. If the baby has constipation, indigestion, or indigestion, the direction of abdominal massage should be clockwise; if the baby has diarrhea, the direction of abdominal massage should be counterclockwise.

Step 6: Massage Zusanli

Zusanli location: 3 inches below the outer kneecap, about one finger width on the outer side of the tibia

Operation method: The operator uses the tip of the thumb to massage the Zusanli acupoint of the child for 200 times.

Step 7: Massage the spleen and stomach points

Spleen point and stomach point location: 1.5 inches below the spinous processes of the 11th and 12th thoracic vertebrae, respectively

Operation method: The operator uses the thumb to massage the spleen point and stomach point, 50 times each.

Step 8: Pinching the spine

Spinal pinching position: Children's back spine

Operation method: The operator's thumbs, index fingers, middle fingers and ring fingers of both hands are placed against each other, and the skin is pinched upwards while twisting it upwards. Alternate your hands and operate from bottom to top along the spine. This can be done 5 to 10 times.

Pinching the spine is not only commonly used to treat digestive system diseases such as malnutrition and diarrhea in children, but also has the function of strengthening the body. It is one of the main methods commonly used in children's health care. Clinically, it is often used in combination with tonifying the spleen meridian, massaging the abdomen, and pressing and rubbing the Zusanli acupoint. It has certain effects on some chronic diseases of children due to congenital and acquired deficiencies.
