Falling is a very common injury for babies, and it is also a wound that will have a certain impact on the baby's skin health. If the wound becomes infected, it will directly affect the baby's overall health. Therefore, after the baby falls, parents must treat the wound according to the specific circumstances of the baby's fall. So, what should we do if our baby is injured? This will be introduced below! 1. Abrasions It refers to the wound caused by external injury that breaks the baby's skin. For very shallow wounds of small area, you can clean the wound with a wet tissue or clean water, disinfect the skin around the wound with iodine or alcohol, then apply a layer of topical anti-inflammatory ointment, and then apply a Band-Aid or bandage it with sterilized gauze. If the abrasion is large, the wound is stained with sand or dirt that cannot be cleaned off by yourself, or the injured area is swollen, severely painful, the surrounding body tissue is broken, bleeding does not stop, or the injury is in an important part (such as the face), it is recommended to seek medical attention immediately. For large and deep wounds, the baby should be taken to the surgery department in time for local debridement and tetanus injection. 2. Cutting injury (scratching) Cuts are injuries caused by knives, scissors, pieces of glass, or sharp instruments. Cuts most commonly occur on the hands. The first treatment is to stop the bleeding with local direct pressure or pinching the sides of the fingers to stop the bleeding. First, apply firm and gentle pressure on the wound with a clean gauze or towel for at least 5 minutes. Do not remove the towel frequently to check the wound. After 5 minutes, if there is still bleeding, it can be extended for 5 minutes. In 95% of cases, pressure can stop the bleeding. If the bleeding has not stopped after 15 minutes, or the wound bleeds every few moments, an artery may be damaged and you should seek medical attention immediately. After the bleeding stops, clean the wound with light salt water and soap, disinfect the skin around the wound with 75% alcohol or iodine, cover it with sterile gauze or a Band-Aid, and finally fix it with a bandage. 3. Stab When you are stabbed by sharp objects such as nails and needles, a small amount of blood will generally flow out. Because the wound is narrow and deep, bacteria are not easily discharged and it is easy to cause inflammation. When treating a puncture wound urgently, you need to squeeze the wound to let a little blood flow out and the bacteria will be expelled at the same time. If you are stabbed, no matter how small the wound is, there is a risk of tetanus infection. Be sure to seek medical attention promptly and get a tetanus shot. If foreign objects such as wood thorns and bamboo thorns are retained under the skin, you can put a piece of ice on the skin where the foreign object is located to numb the skin to some extent. Then use a sterilized needle to gently pry open the skin to expose the foreign object, and use sterilized tweezers to clip the foreign object out. If the foreign object that causes the puncture is a piece of glass or a broken nail in the wound, the baby should stop moving immediately. Do not handle it yourself at home, but go to the hospital quickly to remove it through surgery. If not handled properly, it can cause more bleeding and even damage internal organs, blood vessels, and nerves. |
