What to do if your 3-year-old baby has prickly heat

What to do if your 3-year-old baby has prickly heat

We all know that the weather is very hot in summer. Many people will sweat because of the hot weather, especially for babies. They can't use air conditioners or fans. They can only stay indoors as much as possible in summer. At this time, they always sweat, and their skin is likely to get prickly heat due to Chinese characters. So what should I do if a three-year-old baby has prickly heat?

1. Why do babies get prickly heat?

When exposed to high temperatures and humidity, your baby's metabolism becomes more active. However, the baby's body temperature regulation function is not yet perfect, which leads to the inability to discharge sweat normally, thus causing prickly heat.

It is important to note that the reason why many newborn babies are prone to prickly heat is that many elders are always worried that the baby will catch a cold if they wear too little, so they often dress the baby in more clothes, which makes it more likely for prickly heat and fever to occur.

2. How to deal with prickly heat?

Some parents start to worry when they see their baby has prickly heat.

The main thing is to control the indoor temperature, keep the air ventilated smoothly, take a bath and change clothes frequently, and keep the skin clean and dry.

If the prickly heat is very itchy, you can apply calamine lotion topically to relieve the itching. If the condition is more serious, you can take oral anti-allergic drugs to relieve the itching. If it is purulent rash, use antibiotic ointment if necessary.

3. How to prevent prickly heat?

1. Take a bath frequently, 2 to 3 times a day, and it is best to use only clean water. After bathing, just use a towel to dry your baby's body. It is not recommended to use talcum powder.

2. When encountering hot weather, you can turn on the air conditioner if conditions permit, and control the room temperature at around 27 degrees. Be careful not to blow it directly towards the baby.

3. Change your baby's clothes frequently every day, use warm water to bathe him/her, and try to wear soft and loose cotton clothes to help the discharge of sweat.

4. Check your baby's nails regularly and cut their nails frequently to prevent long nails from scratching the skin and causing infection.

5. Drink more water to replenish water, drink mung bean soup often, and eat more fresh fruits and vegetables to replenish water and vitamins.

6. When taking your baby out to play, avoid strong sunlight, avoid going out at noon, do a good job of sun protection, and try to play in the shade.

7. If the baby is a little fat and sweat easily accumulates in places such as the folds of the thighs and the neck, you can use gauze to pad them to help absorb sweat and keep the skin dry.

8. Do not hug your baby for a long time to avoid getting prickly heat due to heat.

Finally, I hope the baby’s prickly heat will disappear soon, and I wish the babies can safely get through this hot weather. That’s all for today’s science popularization.
