What to do if newborns have difficulty defecating in winter

The weather is relatively dry in winter, and newborns are prone to difficulty in defecation, which is very harmful to the child's health. Parents must adjust the condition in time. If breastfeeding, new mothers should try not to eat too greasy and irritating foods. In addition, keep the indoor air fresh, keep the air temperature and humidity appropriate, and give the baby more water.

1. Keep the room moist.

When the weather is cold, babies stay in air-conditioned or heated rooms for a long time and lose water quickly, so you should try to keep the indoor air moist.

2. Give your baby more water

Or drink fruit juice (home-squeezed juice, apple juice, pear juice, orange juice, etc.) to allow the baby to absorb enough water.

3. Don’t only eat refined foods

You can eat more crude fiber foods such as celery, pumpkin, sweet potato, etc. The celery should be chopped finely or squeezed into juice and cooked with the porridge. Pumpkin and sweet potato should be boiled and mashed into paste. You can also give him some bananas. But don't eat bananas and sweet potatoes together.

4. It is not recommended to give your baby honey water

Although honey has a laxative effect, experts have different opinions on whether it is harmful to babies. So it is better to believe the rumors that it is harmful than to take the risk.

5. Let your baby develop the habit of regular bowel movements

You should have a bowel movement at least once a day, and the time for bowel movement can be after breakfast. You should do this every day. Even if your baby just had a poop in the afternoon of the previous day, you should let him have it again the next morning. Only in this way can you slowly develop the habit of regular bowel movements.

6. Rub your baby’s belly

You can also pat your baby's back and massage his waist, which are all helpful in promoting gastrointestinal motility. When doing these, be sure to keep your child warm and prevent him or her from catching a cold.
