What to do if your baby's nose is not straight

Many parents hope that their children will be beautiful, and a straight nose is a criterion for beauty. When many parents find that their children have crooked noses, they hope to change this problem through certain methods, such as pinching the baby's nose. In fact, there is no need for parents to do this, because pinching the nose will have a great impact on the baby's nose development.

1. How to tell if your baby's nose is straight

In fact, the human body needs the coordination of various organs to show beauty. Your baby's little nose is still developing. The baby is still so small, it is difficult to tell whether the nose is straight or not. However, if you must judge whether a small nose is straight, you can refer to the data on nose beauty, which is that the height of the nose should account for 1/2 of the length of the nose, and the width of the nose should account for 7/10 of the length of the nose. This kind of nose is considered a beautiful nose by the Chinese.

If the baby's nose matches or is particularly close to this value, then the baby's nose is a beautiful nose, full of beauty.

2. There is no scientific basis for pinching your nose to make it straighter

Weight gain is fastest during early infancy, and it is during this stage that the characteristics of a flat nose and wide-set eyes are most obvious. After the baby's anterior fontanelle closes at the age of 1 to 1.5 years, the facial and nasal bones begin to grow and develop rapidly, and the bridge of the nose slowly grows out. The changes in the nasal bones will continue to develop until puberty when they become mature.

The height of the nose bridge is determined by genetic factors, development speed, early nutrition, nasal trauma and other factors. There is currently no definite scientific evidence to prove that frequently pinching and lifting the nose bone can make the nose straighter. Pinching the baby's nose bridge is just the psychological factors of adults and has no practical effect.

3. Pinching the nose damages the child's nasal mucosa

The nasal mucosa of a baby is delicate. If you use improper force when pinching the baby's nose bridge, it may easily damage the baby's nasal mucosa. Children's nasal cavity is shorter than that of adults, they have no nasal hair, the posterior nasal passage is narrow, the bridge of the nose is cartilage tissue, and the nasal mucosa is delicate and rich in blood vessels. Pinching a child's nose frequently will affect his or her breathing. Especially if you use too much force or use improper force, it is very likely to damage the nasal mucosa and blood vessels, leading to an inflammatory reaction. In addition, it will reduce the defense function of the nasal cavity, making it easy to be invaded by bacteria and viruses and cause disease. Therefore, children’s noses should not be pinched casually.
