What to do if your child's mouth is swollen

What to do if your child's mouth is swollen

Children are relatively young, so they are very naughty. At this time, their motor functions are sometimes not very coordinated. If parents do not take good care of them, they may fall and their mouths may be swollen. At this time, the children will cry. Parents must take cold compresses in time to relieve the symptoms. If there is bleeding, anti-inflammatory drugs should be used in time.

What to do if your baby's lips are swollen

1. In the early stage, you can use cold compress to treat it, which can reduce the lip edema. After two days, use a towel for hot compress, which can promote the absorption of edema. You can take your baby to the hospital for an ENT examination. If you need a cold compress, you can use an ice pack. If you don’t have an ice pack at home, you can also wrap some ice cubes in a towel for a cold compress. If you want to apply hot compress, use a warm towel to apply to the affected area. Pay attention to the hygiene of the towel and disinfect it before use to avoid infection.

2. It is necessary to take anti-inflammatory drugs. If your baby's lips are swollen due to a fall, it is recommended to choose anti-inflammatory drugs. You can choose suitable medicines for your baby under the guidance of a doctor, and make good dietary adjustments, eat less raw, cold and spicy foods, and remember to drink plenty of water during treatment.

3. If the baby's lip is severely injured, you should pay attention to whether there is an infection. It is recommended to rinse the mouth with salt water before treatment to avoid infection at the wound site. If there is an infection, use medication to treat it first, and pay attention to changes in the baby's condition.

Things to pay attention to after your child falls

1. Don’t rub the affected area with your hands. When a child accidentally bumps into something, the parents’ first reaction is to rub the affected area vigorously, hoping to reduce the swelling. In fact, this is the wrong way to deal with it. If you hit your head, it is best not to rub, massage or apply hot compress to the injured area immediately. The more you rub, the more likely it is to cause a blister, which will increase swelling and subcutaneous bleeding, and will only make the child more painful. The best way is to use ice to reduce swelling quickly.

2. Pay attention to the child's behavior after being hit. If the child shows the following symptoms, it means that there is no serious problem: the child starts crying on the spot, but stops crying within 15 minutes; after the crying stops, the child's spirit and complexion are good; there is no vomiting; there is no serious lump on the head. If the child behaves the same as before except for a brief period of crying, then there is no need to worry too much, as this collision did not cause any brain injury and is at most just a skin injury.

3. Be alert to whether there are internal brain injuries. Cold and hot compresses are only local physical treatments. While seeing local injuries, pay close attention to the patient's overall condition. Be fully alert to whether the patient has intracranial hematoma, concussion or cerebral contusion. If you find increasingly obvious headaches, nausea, vomiting, irritability or gradual loss of consciousness, ear or nose bleeding and other symptoms, you should immediately seek emergency treatment.
