During the development of the fetus, it will be restricted by space, causing its lower limbs to gradually bend, which will cause its lower limbs to be squeezed and deformed. When it just starts walking after birth, it has an outward or inward walking posture. Generally, this happens when a child has just learned to walk, and it will gradually get better on its own after a period of time. The pigeon toes will get better after you learn to walk. Some parents only notice that their children, who have just learned to stand, have a very obvious "outward-facing" posture. When standing, your feet should be pointed outward, almost in a straight line. The lower limbs of such children are prone to external rotation, but are quite tight when internally rotated. This is because the baby's hips are flexed and externally rotated in the womb, causing the hip external rotation muscles to become tight. Generally speaking, once you start walking, your muscles will relax and your pigeon toes will gradually get better. If you really want to do something to speed up your recovery, we recommend doing internal rotation exercises for your lower limbs. Very few people seek medical treatment for walking with their feet turned outward when they grow up, which is enough to prove that this condition will get better naturally. Children with pigeon-toed feet need to stretch As for people who walk with their feet turned inward, there are quite a lot of them. As mentioned before, most fetuses have inversion of the foot, internal rotation of the calf, and flexion of the hip in the uterus. Therefore, after birth, some children have inversion of the foot due to excessive pressure in the womb. However, its flexibility is still quite high, that is to say, it can be returned to its normal position with just a little force, and the joint movement is not restricted. Generally speaking, this situation does not require treatment. At most, you just need to do "stretching" exercises, that is, massage outwards and upwards, and it will return to normal in one or two months. This is different from "clubfoot", in which the foot is deformed, the heel is tight, and cannot be easily turned back to normal position. Movement in all directions is also restricted. Treatment requires plaster wrapping, and those who do not fully recover require surgical treatment. Correction of plantar adduction with massage, corrective shoes, and plaster There is another condition for children under one year old who walk with their feet turned inward, which is plantar adduction. It is different from clubfoot. In plantar adduction, only the front end of the foot bends inward, and the flexibility of the condition is different for each child. If it can be easily returned to its normal position, no special treatment is needed, just stretching and massage will be enough. If considerable force is required to return the bone to its normal position or if it is not completely returned to its normal position, corrective shoes or plaster may be required for treatment. It only makes sense to switch between left and right shoes in this situation, and the inside of the shoe must be hard. We believe that custom orthopedic shoes or casts are more effective. In a few serious cases, the front end of the foot still bends inward after the age of four, which is unsightly and affects the wearing of shoes. Some people believe that this type of foot is prone to big toe valgus deformation in the future. In this case, surgical correction can be considered. |
